4.0 out of 5 stars not your Father's Blackhawk
these are the 60s stories, well drawn, each highlighting the team work which made this odd collection of flying aces work. While there is still some ...cultural insensitivity, but it's not like the war year propaganda.

This collection is in black and white, which for me was okay. I knew that and expected it and didn't mind that part. I was more disappointed with the stories. As this was Volume One, I was looking forward to and expecting to see the Blackhawk origin and the WW2 era stories. 1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for..., October 21, 2011
This review is from: Showcase Presents: Blackhawk (Paperback)
This collection is in black and white, which for me was okay. I knew that and expected it and didn't mind that part. I was more disappointed with the stories. As this was Volume One, I was looking forward to and expecting to see the Blackhawk origin and the WW2 era stories. These stories were based more on the Cold War and had more of a DC SuperFriends theme, with the team fighting various 1960 type supervillains or "Red/Commie Menace" based adversaries. As a whole this collection kinda oozed Cold War propaganda between the pages. None of the stories contained in this volume had the Grumman XF5F Skyrocket planes (my favorite) or battles with the Nazis (always good), so that was pretty disappointing.

Anyways that's my two cents worth.

This book even though reproduces the original Blackhawk DC era, its in black and white, which I could understand if it appeared in a cheap or low budget newspaper comic pages or section but not in a publication for Blackhawk fans and collectors. For those of us who remember the colorful art of Blackhawk Comics during both the Quality and DC eras, this is quite a letdown. Save your money and wait until someone comes out with the real, original thing, not a black and white copy of it!
