5.0 out of 5 stars classic and timeless Supergirl adventures
Considering how slow(and expensive) the release rate of DC's Archive line of comic book collections is, this Showcase is a must have item for Supergirl fans!

This collection reprints Superman #123, 139, 140, 144; Jimmy Olsen #40, 44, 46, 51, 52; Lois Lane #314; and most importantly issues #252-281 of Action Comics. Some wonderful Supergirl art by Jim Mooney...

3.0 out of 5 stars Example Of Early Comics
I like reading DC showcase series because it's early vintage material, but I can't get past the fact that they seem silly and childish. I know comics are for kids, and this title is no exception. Everytime Supergirl needs to be somewhere, she has her Linda robot take her place at the orphanage. It gets tedious. I know Superman also has Superman robots, but all of it seems...

Some wonderful Supergirl art by Jim Mooney and Curt Swan in this collection. The only drawback would be the fact that art is reprinted in black and white, and not in color.
Definitely recommended for fans of Kara Zor-El. :)

This is a collection of Supergirl stories taken from the back of Action Comics. Superman had the lead story. I have the original comics but found this an easier and enjoyable way to re-read them. Stories are enjoyable and escapist entertainment. Cleaver writing makes them fun to read. Art is simple and clear. Worth reading if you want to know what made comic book collecting and reading comics back in the 1960's fun and enjoyable.

If you love the Silver Age world of Superman, it's all here! Krypto! Streaky the Super Cat! Time travel! The Bottle City of Kandor! The Legion of Super Heroes! Lex Luthor! Mxyzptlk! These stories feature the earliest adventures of Supergirl when she was filling the role of Superman's secret helper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Good for Colletors, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Showcase Presents: Supergirl, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I thought this collection of original Supergirl comics was really good. It would have been better in color, but the black and white made it economical. I really enjoyed them. I even remember reading some of the stories as reprints in other comics. The stories are simple, but you have to remember they were writen in 1959 and the 1960s when comics were reativly simple. All and all I was very pleased with the collection and would highly reconmend it.

I like reading DC showcase series because it's early vintage material, but I can't get past the fact that they seem silly and childish. I know comics are for kids, and this title is no exception. Everytime Supergirl needs to be somewhere, she has her Linda robot take her place at the orphanage. It gets tedious. I know Superman also has Superman robots, but all of it seems contrived. A lot of conclusions to the stories in this book seems funny, but I guess that makes it "fun" to read. I like the book, because I'm a Supergirl fan. I recommend it to young girls, because I assume this was the intended audience of Supergirl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Showcase Presents-Super Collection at Great Price!, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Showcase Presents: Supergirl, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I was always caught up more in the story and the fun of the silver-age comics than the collection-mania. I guess that is why most of my old copies would be classified as "well-read." The Showcase Presents: Supergirl is another great collection of hard-to-find comics from the early days of the silver-age. I applaud DC for the fine series and look forward to purchasing many more of these titles.
