Book Description

November 9, 2010
Showdown with Evil is a collection of 29 of Dr. Jamie Glazov's best interviews, while serving as editor of Frontpagemag.com, with the leading intellectuals and newsmakers of our time -- all of whom contribute to understanding, and opposing, radical Islam and its leftist apologists. Glazov, whose parents were dissidents in the former Soviet Union, shows in his conduct of these interviews that he understands the values of freedom and the need to fight for it. The collection, which begins with a Foreword by Richard Perle, former assistant Secretary of Defense for the Reagan administration, offers a powerful and honest assessment of the implications of this threat as well as a warning that should not go unheeded. It's a crash course in how to protect American liberty from its totalitarian and terrorist enemies.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Jamie Glazov has produced the most important book in America. This compilation of interviews describes the dangers of the Obama administration and the President himself with facts that will enlighten the American people for the coming elections. Do we have a Manchurian candidate in the White House now trained by Frank Davis and Saul Alinsky? Read it and find out!" --Lieutenant General Thomas McInerney USAF (Ret.)

"With apologies to President Kennedy, Showdown With Evil may represent the highest concentration of intellectual rigor in one place, since any single essay fo William Buckley" - Robert C. McFarlane, National Security Advisor to President Reagan, Chairman and CEO of McFarlane Associates Inc. ----from the back cover, Showdown With Evil

The authors/interviewees collected between the book s covers constitute a veritable Who s Who of significant voices: Norman Podhoretz, Christopher Hitchens, William F. Buckley Jr., Natan Sharansky, Victor Davis Hanson, Phyllis Chesler, Andrew McCarthy, Theodore Dalrymple, Kenneth Levin, Robert Spencer, and Andrew Klavan, to mention only a few...Glazov is also an exceptional interviewer, knowing when to ask a leading question (Buckley calls him a very pleasant extortionist ) and when to introduce an explanatory comment or append a modest rebuttal. --David Solway, Pajamas Media

"Jamie Glazov knows how to gather the sharper minds, and he knows how to probe them. He has one of them himself: a sharp mind. This collection of interviews and commentary is a guide to our perilous times." --Jay Nordlinger, Senior Editor, National Review -- --from the back cover, Showdown With Evil

5.0 out of 5 stars Relentlessly engaging and easily digestible December 3, 2010
Format:Paperback
This collection of 29 interviews conducted over the course of the last several years by Jamie Glazov is relentlessly fascinating and engaging. As former Asst. Secretary of Defense Richard Perle states in the foreword, this is "an illuminating and important commentary on the largest issues facing America and the West," particularly the "Islamist agenda that has replaced communism as the principal threat to western values and civilization."

In readable and easily digestible chapters ranging from 3 to 18 pages each, Glazov - the editor of David Horowitz's Front Page website - probes the impressive minds of some courageous conservative intellects like Victor Davis Hanson, Phyllis Chesler, Brigitte Gabriel, Andy C. McCarthy, Natan Sharansky, Christopher Hitchens, Theodore Dalrymple, Horowitz himself, even William F. Buckley, Jr., in chapters grouped into the following topics:

1) Obama's Destructive Path
2) Unholy Alliance
3) Islam: The Religion of Peace?
4) The Terror War
5) The Evil Empire
6) Leaving the Faith
7) The Titans
8) Looking to the Future of Freedom

Each section is capably introduced by David Swindle, the smart young editor of Horowitz's NewsReal Blog. Swindle conducts the concluding, 30th interview of Glazov himself, who is no less interesting and passionate an interview subject than the others.

If you are at all concerned about such issues as national security, Obama's impact on the future of America, the threat of fundamentalist Islam and the complicity of the Left, and the conflict between freedom and tyranny, then this collection is a must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUMMER READING FOR THE COLLEGE STUDENT February 25, 2011
Format:Paperback
A MUST FOR ANYONE HEADED FOR COLLEGE. We're by now familiar with the attitudes of blue state elites, especially academics, about the rest of us. As seen by lefty historian Thomas Frank, middle Americans are rubes who have been bamboozled by conservatives through sham issues like abortion and gay marriage to vote against their true class interests, a view echoed in candidate Obama's famous description of small-town Midwesterners as frustrated dummies who "get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them." Stupid, hateful, violent, righteous racists.

THIS BOOK PRESENTS A BROAD AND POWERFUL ANTIDOTE TO SUCH ELITIST INTELLECTUAL POISON. It contains a full array of the topics that defined the last decade and will dominate the coming era, discussed in 29 probing interviews over the last eight years by FrontPage editor Dr. Jamie Glazov, including: the disastrous policies of the Obama administration; the strange alliance between the left and Islamists; the nature of radical Islam, in its own terms; the war on terror in historical context; lessons from yesterday's enemy, the USSR; the evolution of former leftists; and speculations on the future.

The interviews are with some of our most important intellectuals, mostly but not all or uniformly, conservative, including Ralph Peters, Victor Davis Hanson, Robert Spencer, Elliott Abrams, Dick Morris, David Horowitz, Steve Emerson, Rep. Howard Berman, Phyllis Chesler, Norman Podhoretz, Natan Sharansky, Rich Lowry, William F. Buckley Jr., Christopher Hitchens, Ann Coulter, Richard Pipes, and more.

Students headed for college need to prepare by broadening their intellectual backgrounds in this era of one-party college environments, more so as colleges get obscenely expensive, academic elites having assumed you'll pay anything for their blessings. Parents can offset this heist by preparing their kids for the dizzying onslaught of elite bias.

You can double the antidote by including United in Hate: The Left's Romance with Tyranny and Terror, Glazov's 2009 historical survey of the left's infatuation with totalitarian mass murderers and it's similar fondness for Islamist terrorism (well reviewed at Amazon). A triple play would include any of David Horowitz' recent books. Don't send the kids off without them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat dated May 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There is a lot of info in the book that I wasn't aware of. It has been an educational read but some of the sections were written even before obama was in office. While somewhat pertinent to our plight today, I chose to skip some sections that I felt no need to read at this time.
