Book Description

July 2007
The "Shower Posse" is derived from the "shower" of lead it shoots at rivals. Referred to by the FBI as "the most violent and notorious criminal organization ever in America," the Shower Posse was the epitome of drug dealing ruthlessness.

This tell-all saga is in the words of its mastermind, Vivian Blake. Blake skyrocketed to wealth with savvy business skills, but his savage henchmen terrorized the sheets into submission. Blake's men had been raised in Jamaica where murders went unsolved daily. Shower ran wild spraying bullets on anyone and everyone in their way. Their weapons, fingerprints and m.o.'s were not traceable. Most American police had never seen any of them before. That careless attitude toward pulling triggers earned a record 1400+ murders and quickly established Shower's rep.

1.0 out of 5 stars Interesting content, terribly written, November 8, 2009
This review is from: Shower Posse: The Most Notorious Jamaican Crime Organisation (Hardcover)
This book was written with the skill level of an average jr. high school student. This is not surprising given it was written by the protagonist's son. Someone who growing up probably was taught the value of objects, ego and power over intelligence and education. It's too bad, given that Jamaicans generally value education and hard work. Theirs is a very diverse culture whose influence has touched practically every corner of the earth. A big deal for such a tiny island. It is clearly a culture with tons of heart.

It would have been very easy to find a smart and talented Jamaican writer to tell this story the proper way. Unfortunately it just tells it in an insipid and plodding style. Lots of useless details, like what people ate before they murdered innocent people, or what stupid pimp gear they wore before torturing their former friends, now turned enemy because of greed. Also, the grammar is just -bad-. I feel embarrassed for all the intelligent Jamaicans who probably groan in horror from being represented so poorly. I could easily see a reader coming away from this book thinking that the majority of Jamaicans are stupid, greedy and violent people who blame everyone else for their misfortune. The truth is the opposite.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is the real thing..., November 3, 2003

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This book has good realistic details, I believed every bit of this story. I couldn't put this book down. The book is an easy read for a Jamaican or an American. The book shows how in the Jamaican community, family comes first, unfortunately due to Vivian's family's greed and coveting they were his downfall, but he never turned his back on anyone. Please support Duane Blake's attempt at showing his father's real story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent start, December 28, 2007
This review is from: Shower Posse: The Most Notorious Jamaican Crime Organisation (Hardcover)
I think the book was excellent in terms of its exposure of the infamous drug hustle game that so many get caught up in. The book serves as a true testimony for others to learn from. I however was very disturbed about the amount of grammatical errors in my book. Was it just my copy or is that just how the book is.. if so? Please think about revising the book and coming out with a 2nd edition. I also think a screenplay for this movie would be ideal.
