This review is from: Showing Up! An Action Plan for Personal Growth and Following Your Bliss (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book with an understandable plan for knowing yourself and improving your life as a result. Very interesting, including references to various ancient religions and cultures, extracting ancient wisdom for modern use. A very quick and worthwhile read.

"Showing up is the metaphysical key that unlocks the portal to our higher selves and allows our soul to soar to heaven's door while still present in the here and now", write authors and seekers Stratton Horres and Michala Perreault. Their new book, Showing Up, enables the reader to reveal their true self and manifest their origin.Showing Up shows us how to conquer our lower and outer self; how to embrace our inner soul of heart and emotion; and how to unite with our higher self, our divine nature. If you've ever been caught up in a life where success was called money or trappings; if you've ever felt an emptiness in your life from a lack of higher purpose; and if you've never been able to unite with your spirituality, here is a book you must read. Authors Horres and Perreault have traveled the same road, from emptiness to enlightenment. Curiously, even though they lived but thirty miles apart, and studied many of the same sources of wisdom (Joseph Campbell, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sufism, Judaism and Christianity), they did not know each other until they met at a conference on Egyptology in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Using their respective backgrounds and strengths, he a successful trial attorney, she an ordained minister, naturopathic healer and therapist, they have authored a book that is both empowering and illuminating. Showing Up is filled with practical guides to growth, and direct and empowering question and answer sections for the reader to truly see within. Showing Up is about vision that "...resonates with your core truths, feels true for now so you can see it serving as a guiding force into your future." Indeed, ask about the companion audio (same title), with the actual meditations described in the book! Thank you Stratton Horres and Michala Perreault for this most fascinating and dynamic work!

Two successful people from very different backgrounds write a compelling story in which they each share their personal life histories. In an easy to read manner we are given a glimpse into their joys, pain, and even childhood memories along with the revelation that neither of them had ever felt completly fulfilled or truly happy. Relationships, wealth, family, religion, work - nothing had ever delivered whatever it was that would fill the void. So, as the reader we go with them around the world as they search for the key to happiness and living life in a state of unconditional love. They teach us how to find meaning in who we are, in our own history, in how we love ourselves, our families and our friends and what sets this book apart from others is how they offer these answers through simple guidance and encouragement. Before you know it, you are the one on the journey. The path they set before you is seemingly easy to follow, almost like a good mystery, a page turner whereby you want to know the ending. So like a good detective you follow the clues only this time the ending is clearly up to you, the reader. I found Showing Up! to be life changing and mind expanding. You know you have found a good book when it leaves you wanting more, sends you in search of more knowledge and with a feeling that something good has come your way.

Showing Up will prompt readers to "show up",

Who hasn't said, at one time or another, that they wanted to re-evaluate what was important to them in their life? Yet, every time we say it, we always find an excuse to avoid tackling the subject. "Showing Up" will give you the encouragement to adress these important matters. The authors do an excellent job of explaining how their journeys to find fullfillment in their lives ultimately bought them happiness and peace. We can all learn from their journeys, and this book will help the reader want to apply some of their messages to their own life. By sitting down and answering some difficult but insightful questions the authors pose in the form of a "deposition", the reader will gain insight into their own beliefs, and hopefully compell them to adress what is truely important to them.

Review of Showing Up,

I have read dozens of new-age self-help books including works by the Dali Lama, Deepak Chopra, Swami Rama and Tich Naht Hahn to name a few. Stratton Horres and Michala Perreault have created a model text for waking up and living in the present. Their guide to quality in life applies ages of wisdom to their own personal knowledge and experience for a fresh look at finding meaning in our lives. The work sets the target-following your bliss-and outlines constructive means to find it and stay on the path. My father always taught me that "this life is not a dress rehearsal." In a nutshell, this book teaches how to practice that simple wisdom by showing up every day. I would recommend this book to anyone who cares about living.
