This CD is not the same as the vinyl pressing of the late 70's or early 80's that had essentially the same playlist. I was hoping to replace my lost vinyl press of this title. This recording is somewhat rawer than the original and, frankly, I preferred the earlier version. One track, 'Champagne (& Wine)', appears exactly as I remember it on the earlier recording. I will say that the cruder presentation here is interesting, but if you are purchasing this as a replacement of the earlier recording, I fear that you will be disappointed.

Originally in Holland the album Shpritsz (exactly the same as this CD) was released in 1978. One year after this, Herman decided to jump to the USA, with this remixed album. This album did not contain some songs of the first released dutch album en they recorded a new version of Saturday Night. This CD is the same as the first dutch releas and is a 'state of the art' album, concerning rock & roll. Buy it and you won't be sorry!!

Have the album, decided to get the CD. The two are very similar but slightly different. Mostly in the intro's and some of the lyrics(not much). This CD stays very true to the album for sound and style. Great lyrics, jumpin piano riffs and excellent guitar chops.

Without a doubt, this is the greatest album from a great rock n roll star. Herman's long and reasonably successful career is simply littered with great music, sung and played from the heart. 23 years later, Herman fufils his own prophesy - 'When I do my suicide for you, I hope you miss me too'. There will be no more music from Herman so buy what you can while it's available.

This CD sounds like it has its influnces in the Delta of the southwest of America. Herman is a master of this raw soul sound and sound be making more records than he has!! Herman is a soul man.

I first learned of Herman Brood in 1978 while reading an small article in my college newspaper. They described this Junkie with incredible soul, I was imediately intrigued. I have two scratched vinyl LPs that still sound great to me. Each track is infectious and seduces you to listen again and again if nothing else to try to make out the tortured lyrics of a recovering addict. I will never forget the love starved line, "I'll make friends with your daddy, I'll make friends with your dog, just to get you to let me back in your love".
I performed in a band after college and had some success if only on a local level. I mention this not to exhalt myself but to add that the cover tune that turned the dance floor into a sweaty pulsing frenzy was H. Broods, "Rock & Roll Junkie". I LOVE THIS CD.
PS If anybody can find, "Street" on CD, I would love to find that as well, cool stuff.

I have the original vinyl LP which I purchased when it first came out. This recording is nothing like the American released LP.
I couldn't be more disappointed.
I will more then likely record the vinyl copy I own, which is far superior (even with the pops and noise of vinyl) to this.
Maybe if this is the first time you've heard Herman, this might sound good to you. But I have this LP, Go Nutz, & Cha Cha all purchased on vinyl as they were released here in the USA, I have even played "Saturday Night " in bands for many years. The only good thing I can say about this recording is, it's easier to figure out what he's saying.

Don't be fooled when you read that this CD is way different from the original LP release. A new song, a couple of different intro's and transitions, but the songs themselves are the same as they were on vinyl (I checked). That's to say they sound great and every bit as good as you remember them!! This cd is truly a testament as an old rock n roll favorite standing the test of time.
