4.0 out of 5 stars Best family game I've seen
This is not a game for "serious gamers" but it's a great family game, especially for families with children of different ages who like to play games together. 2.0 out of 5 stars Fun but too expensive for a kid game
Bought the game last week and our 6 and 8 y.o. kids like it so far, it's fun but definitely not on par with Harry Potter or Finding Nemo. The movie is much much more fun than the game. It doesn't have what we call the 'stickiness' factor. You can play as Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, and few other characters and it's better to play as a team than as a single player. The game,...

This is not a game for "serious gamers" but it's a great family game, especially for families with children of different ages who like to play games together. Being a cooperative game makes it a lot more fun to play with people of varying skill levels. It's easy enough that my 4 year old can play, but challenging enough that older kids and parents may have to try over and over to complete the "hero time" quests. My kids enjoy replaying it even though we've already finished the game. I wish there were more games like this that encourage cooperative play. My only compaint is that the "puzzle-solving" aspect might be a little too easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect fun for the younger set, September 18, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shrek 2 (Video Game)
Shrek 2 was an amazingly funny movie, with all of the wit and graphic animation of the first. The game Shrek 2 is obviously geared towards kids, but is great fun too.

The game lets you be one of four characters - Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and the Gingerbread Man. Each character has his or her strengths and weaknesses, and the graphics are rather nicely done. Shrek lands with a hard THUD, Fiona floats gently to the ground, and so on.

You can play multi-player, or solo, easily switching between characters if you wish. This is great for family play, where parents can hop in to help out with a difficult puzzle, or just wander along behind the child to be there in case of trouble.

Most of the game is about collecting items and solving simple puzzles. You slam on snails to get them out of their shells and get eyeballs. You slow down time so you can gather up the fairies. All along, there are fun jokes and riddles to keep you entertained.

Not all games have to be high brainpower puzzles or super-fast lightning reflex challenges. Sometimes it's nice to have a simple game that kids can really enjoy. I'm really pleased that this game is out there. Highly recommended for the younger set, and parents might actually enjoy playing along with the tykes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice game...., May 23, 2004

This review is from: Shrek 2 (Video Game)
This was a fun game, even thought it was a bit short. It was fairly easy, but entertaining. I enjoyed being able to play all the different charaters. Little Red and Puss 'n Boots were my favorite for their attacks. I think young kids will really get a kick out of it, but serious gamers would probably pass on it unless they really, really love Shrek 2. (...)it's definately worth renting from the video store. Be careful though, too many hours of gameplay can temporarily fry your Gamecube because the game moves at such high RPM(it's got a lot of high end graphics and cut scenes).

4.0 out of 5 stars Family Fun, October 23, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shrek 2 (Video Game)
Our family loves playing this game together. I have a 6 and 4 year old and we all can play this game and be which ever charater we choose. The puzzels are easy for this age group and there are plenty of chances for our son to be challenged in the one player 'hero times'. Plus, if other kids come over that do not play these types of games at home - they can jump right in too. My kids still find it fun to go back to certain chapters and play through it again - its a family favorite.

The game, however, is far too short for the full price. Most GC games of equal or better quality are much cheaper. I feel I paid $10-$20 extra for the marketing and hype. For those who like Shrek, think about renting it (can be finsihed over a weekend) or wait few weeks until it gets discounted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent game for younger players (age 8 and up)!, June 20, 2004

I read the reviews here and was doubtful about the game. My son really wanted it so I rented it first. It is a perfect level for him. I actually like playing it, too! Earlier reviewers said it was "too short and easy." That may be the case for advanced gamers, however, it is challenging and interesting enough for my son who is 8 years old. After renting it we decided to buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun game for both Kids and Adults, December 1, 2004
By
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shrek 2 (Video Game)
This game is an overall really good game. The graphics are awesome, it loosely follows the movie. Which if you have seen then you will love the game, if you haven't seen the movie it is a good stand alone game as well. I really like the multiplayer function. It allows both kids, and adults to play together. Or you can just play it by yourself. One drawback it has is through no fault of it's own, it like all multiplayer 1 screen games has a limit to the distance the characters can be from each other. However it is pretty far which allows one person to be doing something while other can do what they need to do at the same time. If you play it by yourself or with less then 4 people then the AI kicks in to play the other characters so there are 4 at all times. Which is kind of cool because they fight for themselves, however when you are travelling or trying to solve a puzzle, they have a tendency to get in the way. Some of the puzzels are a little difficult but not to terribly hard. The hardest part is finding everything. You can compelete a level without completing everything there is to do. This is a really great game and I say go ahead and get it. Especially at a discounted price.

My just turned 6 year old can figure out 70% of the logic needed in this game, he can't do a VERY few of the tasks like fly the dragon to win that hero time and there was one stone monster boss guy I had to finally defeat for him. BUT, he really likes this game, he "gets" the goals and can figure out with some hunting and trial and error how to get thru the chapters. It has a tad more "killing" of stuff than I care for but what doesn't these days. He likes being able to be different characters, his favorite is Puss n Boots!

As a grown up I enjoyed it as well, especially the humor!

This game is a lot of fun and the concept behind it is simple but genius. You basicly control four characters and on the way solve puzzles, get new friends, defeat bosses, and gat photots for your scrapbook.

A great game for the whole family.
