Lots of fun!,

We got this CD even before we saw the movie "Shrek 2." My kids - ages 3 and 6 - love this soundtrack and we listen to it constantly in the car. Their favorite tracks are "Livin La Vida Loca" and "Holding Out For A Hero." I personally enjoy "Accidentally In Love," "Funkytown" (which brings back memories of when I was a kid myself) and the other upbeat songs. This is a must have for those who enjoyed the movie. And unlike the first film's soundtrack, it is appropriate for all age groups and can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. Donkey and Puss In Boots rousing duet is a definite crowd pleaser. Highly recommended!

Fun for all!,

The Shrek 2 soundtrack is just as good as the sound track from the first movie. There are great songs for the whole family. Mom loves it for the songs that I remember from my younger days and my kids will like it for the humor and the fun quirky songs that are included as well. This is a great soundtrack for carting the kids around town or for roadtrips. I am sure that this is going to be the one my kids request the most in the future!

Something to sing to...,
By "gistranch" (West Haven, UT United States) - See all my reviews

I saw the movie a few days ago, and bought the soundtrack immediately afterwards. All the songs from the movie are on the CD including a bar song "sung" by Captian Hook and a playful verison of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero". As with the first CD, the song Donkey(Eddie Murphy) sings at the end is included, this time accompanied by Antonio Banderas(Puss in Boots) Livin' La Vida Loca! A great cd all together and lots of fun to bounce the car with and have neighbor cars looking at you like your insane. ^-^

Not just for the kids,

My kids (ages 8 and 5) loved both Shrek movies, and for that matter, so did I; they did a great job of making the films enjoyable for the little ones, but humorous enough to engage us grown-ups, too. Fortunately, they were able to carry that over to both soundtracks.
I find that even after I've dropped off the kids at school when we were listening to this CD in the car, I'll keep it running for a while longer because I like the songs, myself. Weirdly enough, I really liked the re-makes of Holding Out For A Hero (Frou Frou's version, not Jennifer Saunders') and Changes. I still love the original Holding Out best (from Footloose, you guys remember that? Or am I dating myself too much...?), but this funky version grew on me somehow. And Changes is fabulous, I'm sorry to see some of the other reviewers disliked it so much. The original is good, of course, but this one is also good; the singer has really good stylings, and her voice quality blends well with David Bowie's. (He sings with her on it, you know. So if he gave his personal stamp of approval, enough to perform it with her, then you gotta know it meets some pretty darned high standards there.) "I Need Some Sleep" is another good song. It was such a powerful supplement to its scene in the movie, I can still feel the imprint of the feelings that scene conveyed even when hearing the song alone months later. The only song I really can't stand is "A Little Drop of Poison," as it sounds like it belongs on a low-budget cartoon somewhere. Preferably locked in the cupboard never to see the light of day. Aside from the songs I've already mentioned that I liked, there wasn't much on here for me to get excited about (what IS the big deal about Jennifer Saunders?), but it's such a nice alternative to the other kid-targeted music out there. This CD is one we can all listen to happily.

A good, solid mix of tunes.,
By Tabbyclaw (Tucson, Arizona United States) - See all my reviews

The best part about this CD is that it's exactly what it claims to be: a soundtrack. Not a "Best of" or "Selections from" collection, but a soundtrack that leaves nothing out. It captures the film's personality expertly. And what a personality it is! This is an album that runs the gamut of emotions, from the cheerful groove of "Funkytown" and the driving energy of "Holding Out for a Hero" to the brooding "People Ain't No Good" and the outright desperation of "I Need Some Sleep." The individual songs are idiosyncratic, and taken as a whole package they're a step away from your everyday soundtrack. The much-praised single "Accidentally in Love" actually suffers compared to the rest of the album, becoming the bland pop love song amidst a sea of colorful tunes. The decision to include the "in-character" music was definitely the right one -- from the moment I walked out of the theater I knew that my decision to buy the sountrack would hinge on the inclusion of Jennifer Saunders' version of "Holding Out For A Hero" -- but while the end of the film was a riot to watch, as a song "Livin' La Vida Loca" is showing its age. I don't feel that this is something you can blame the album for, though. Overall, this is a great CD and a worthy addition to your collection. The only reason I knocked off one star is that there are one or two songs that have yet to grow on me. Normally I wouldn't be so harsh about it, but when the rest of the CD grabbed me so intently that gap is hard to bridge.

I Need Some Sleep,

This is a supurb album and I want to mention a song that stands out that msun't be missed. Eels contribution to this soundtrack "I need some sleep" is a magnificient song. Even on the first album they had a great song (my beloved monster and me) but this one is slightly better and sadder. The "Changes" cover is amazing, I have never heard of Butterfly Boucher, but this version of this brilliant song is so beautiful.

Fun!,
This review is from: Shrek 2 (Audio CD)
I might have purchased this just for Accidently in Love by the Counting Crows. Having the rest of the soundtrack is great. Every song is fun, especially if you can remember how it was linked to the movie. I usually don't like covers, but Boucher's cover of Changes was pretty good, and her treatment fit the movie better than Bowie's original. The rest of the songs are all fun too; maybe not great, but fun.

I loved the first Shrek movie and soundtrack and after watching the second Shrek movie decided to buy the Shrek 2 album too and was not at all disappointed! (though I still like the soundtrack to the first Shrek movie better) The soundtrack includes songs of all genres- some fun pop-rock songs like "Accidentally in Love"..some cool techno songs like "Changes" and "Funkytown"..some beautiful slow songs like "I need some sleep" and "people aint no good" and some straight out hilarious songs like "the fairy godmother song" and "Livin' La Vida Loca" which is sang by Eddie Murphy and Antonia Banderas!!! If you love to hear music of all types and love a classic soundtrack..you'll love this soundtrack!

Worth it!,

This soundtrack is one of the few CDs on the market today that I can stand listening through. Even as I watched the movie, I felt that the music was really well used. I could actually visualize parts of the movie again because the songs were so well chosen. I definitely recommend this soundtrack.

Shrek 2 is a great soundtrack,
This review is from: Shrek 2 (Audio CD)
This soundtrack has many good tracks on it. The best song is Accidently in Love by the Counting Crows. It is a lively playful song by one of my favorite bands. Butterfly Boucher's version of David Bowie's Changes is very upbeat and better than the original. Little Drop of Poison is the kind of song that just makes you want to grab a partner and dance. Funkytown is a great disco dance classic that is still fun to listen to. I'm on my Way by Rich Price is a very pleasant song that makes you tap your feet. He has a great voice that reminds me of Dave Matthews a little The Fairy Godmother Song by Jennifer Saunders is cute. I enjoyed her version of Holding Out For a Hero more though She has a sexy voice. Shrek 2 is simply the best soundtrack of the summer. I enjoyed it very much.
