Mediocre Illustrations and Disjointed Plot, May 22, 2007
This review is from: Shrek the Third: A Good King Is Hard to Find (I Can Read Book 2) (Paperback)
"The kingdom of Far Far Away needs a new king. Shrek and Fiona are next in line for the throne. But Shrek does not want the job. 'There must be somebody else', he says. 'Anybody?' There's only one way out. Shrek must find Fiona's cousin, a kid named Arthur Pendragon." -- From the book
This cartoonish book tells the story of Shrek, Donkey and Puss as they search for "Artie" so they can bring him back to rule Far Far Away. While they're gone, the evil Prince Charming has trashed the land--gathering arch villians from fairy tales for a battle against Shrek and his friends.
I haven't yet seen Shrek the Third, but my family and I are eagerly anticipating watching it in the theater this weekend. I almost wished I hadn't found out some major plot points ahead of time!
A Good King is Hard to Find is a Level 2 I Can Read book which means longer sentences, high-interest stories and language play for developing readers. Although no age group is mentioned, I think this would be a good book for readers aged 5-8--and for younger kids who love the Shrek movies.
We have three books based on Shrek the Third and this one sub-par in terms of both story and illustration. Rather than the glossy books that show what look to be actual movie stills--such as
Shrek the Third: Royally Wrong--this book has mediocre illustrations, dull coloring, and a lackluster, disjointed plot.
Still, if your child is a big fan of Shrek the Third--and you'd like to encourage them to read--then this book may suit your needs. My 8 year old loves all the books and doesn't seem to mind the difference in quality.

Book just outlines the movie, May 12, 2009
This review is from: Shrek the Third: A Good King Is Hard to Find (I Can Read Book 2) (Paperback)
This is a good book but we were disappointed that it is really just recaps part of the Movie - Shrek the 3rd. It is not a new story, it just outlines when Shrek meets up with Artie.
My kids love it regardless but I would rather have a new creative story.
