Editorial Reviews

Review

The 2005 special deluxe edition re-issue of Razed In Black s devastating debut album!

Features killer industrial and dark wave tracks that have become club favorites such as Cyberium, Black and Just Let It Go!

Includes all new artwork PLUS 3 ultra rare bonus tracks, two of which were never released, recorded during the same time as Shrieks but not included on the album...until now!

Razed In Black has developed a large and devout following all across the U.S., especially on the West Coast, with numerous national tours!

Previously released in 1996, Shrieks Laments, and Anguished Cries is the first official full length album by Hawaii's own RAZED IN BLACK. Formerly known in the islands as Lost Souls, solo composer Romell Regulacion created quite an impact in Hawaii's alternative music scene. During the era in which bands like Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and KMFDM were in prime underground highlight, Lost Souls fit comfortably alongside, quickly gaining popularity. With tremendous local radio support, concerts and the preferred opening act of national bands who toured the islands (Filter, Tool, etc.), Lost Souls caught the eye of Los Angeles' gothic-industrial mecca label Cleopatra Records, who signed the artist as RAZED IN BLACK after discovering other bands with the Lost Souls name. Since then, the band have produced a handful of impressive albums, each progressively taking electronic music to the next level. With guest appearances as producer, remixer or performer on more than a hundred albums, RAZED IN BLACK's popularity continues to grow tremendously as their worldwide exposure continues.

Remastered and repackaged, we proudly represent Shrieks, Laments, and Anguished Cries with three previously unreleased bonus tracks from that early Razed In Black era. Listen, feel...experience where it all began! --Cleopatra Records

5.0 out of 5 stars Well, now!, July 25, 2005

Okay, Shrieks, Laments, and Anguished Cries is not getting reviewed here. Not a personal favorite album of mine, somewhat repetative to be honest. But this re-release is fantastic!! All the bonus tracks are f*cking brilliant. The guitars slide all over the place, the drum tracks are actually inspiring, and one wonders why they never saw the light until now. If you ARE a fan of Shrieks, Laments... Then these new tracks will blow away. If you're not so much, these bonuses may just sway you....!

This is the least talked about Razed In Black album, maybe because people think its dated or boring. I dunno, I really like this album. It has a dark and heavy edge like Sacrificed, but is more electronic like Damaged. Songs like Cyberium, Just Let It Go, and Control get the red red kroovy flowing. Great album to listen to at night. I used to own the original cd release of Shrieks, Laments, and Anguished Cries and I always thought it sounded a little flat and low on the bass end. I took a chance getting this release(something Cleopatra does a lot), and i was blown away. It wasnt the bonus tracks I was blown away by, but by the new production/remastering the album has had. I put the cd in my player and was floored by the new depth to the brooding synth lines and deep bass tones. The beats actually beat hard this time. That and you can actually hear Romell sing on the album...finally. I know that a new remastering cannot improve the quality of the songwriting, but I really like this album so it does make the album 100 percent more enjoyable to me. The bonus tracks are so-so, which is to be expected, especially on a Cleo re-release. The best one would prolly be Metamorphosis. Bottom line, is that if you have never heard this album, but liked the other two(Sacrificed/Damaged), then you must get this because it got a serious make-over. If you like electronic-based industrial with heavy guitars ala KMFDM, NIN, or Ministry, then of course you need to check Razed In Black out. An essential album and essential band of mid to late 90's industrial. Have fun and be evil.
