4.0 out of 5 stars nice compilation. not really afrobeat., August 20, 2002

The title of this CD is somewhat misleading. The only afrobeat here is from Fela Kuti and a Tony Allen remix. The rest of the songs are a combination of highlife, juju, soukouss etc. Some great tracks featured on the CD include Fela Kuti's "Fefe na efe", Kapa Dech's "Xihlaula mane" and "Funky hilife" by C.K. Mann. The standout track is "Synchro system" by the king of juju music, Sunny Ade. ..., find a way to listen to synchro system.
I must confess I was not blown away by a couple of tracks and that's why I'm giving the CD four stars. Still it's a great Cd to have and is a great introduction to at least four various styles of African music.
