5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Cookbook
Oh my goodness, I think the last reviewer is a little too serious. I love this cookbook! The pop trivia is interesting and some of the cartoons have actually made me laugh. 1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I wanted
This was recommended in Taste of Home magazine, so I thought it would be great. It is VERY much geared towards kids (including cartoons and games- not by the recipes). I didn't see a single recipe that I actually wanted to make. I tried to give it to the Home Ec teacher at the school I work in, and she said she already had it and couldn't find any good recipes either...

The Lasagna on page 137 is sooo yummy. The Indian Butter Chicken on page 82 was a smash hit with company last weekend. Each recipe has a goofy fun name with straight forward translation written right beside it. Life is too short to be so rigid. I say give this book a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this cookbook!, March 10, 2008
By
Loved this cookbook! I've been looking for a "healthy cookbook" for a long time and this is the first one that has recipes that actually taste great. A friend of mine mentioned the book saying she had cooked from it every week and managed to shed a few pounds. I've been a fan of Janet and Greta's other cookbooks Looneyspoons and CrazyPlates for a while so I decided to give Eat, Shrink and Be Merry a try. I didn't think anything could top their other books, but Eat, Shrink and Be Merry is even BETTER! Last week I cooked The Ladle in Red recipe for my family and they absolutely loved it. The hubby even mentioned that he'd like to try a few other recipes. He's looking to lose the beer-gut and hopefully these recipes can help him out. If you really want to eat more healthfully and have fun doing it, give this book a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Food!, January 29, 2008
I love cooking from this book! The recipes are all easy to make and I like that the ingredients can be found in any grocery store. The cooking and nutritional tips in the margins have really helped me learn more about healthy eating. I made the Wise Guy Pizza Pie for friends the other night and everyone absolutely loved it - no one knew that the pizza was actually good for them, lol! I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves delicious food and wants to lose weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, funny & great recipes., February 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The third in a delightful series of fun cookbooks. I love them, I laugh with them and I am amazed at the cleverness of the recipe names. My family loves The Roast of Christmas Past (a roast beef with gravy that includes a can of cranberry sauce- yum) and Lanky Noodle Dandy (made when chicken breast is on sale). Both of these are from Crazy Plates or Looneyspoons. All redipes are low fat versions. Lots of tidbits of information throughout the books too. You can eat 500 boiled shrimp before you get the amount of fat in one McDonalds sausage egg mcmuffin!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my Go-To Cookbooks, June 3, 2008

I've never written a review on Amazon, but as soon as I tried out the recipes in this book I wanted to let everyone know how fantastic they are. Try out this cookbook! Great recipes and they are all healthy. I've been really working hard on giving my kids healthy food choices. The recipes are fun, healthy and fantastic! On top of that, they are extremely easy to make and most of the ingredients you can find in the grocery store. Plus every single recipe I've tried has worked out perfectly the first-time.

5.0 out of 5 stars They've done it again!, February 5, 2008

The Podleski sisters have done it again. I didn't think it could get any better after Crazy Plates but this new cookbook is their best one yet! Some of my favorite recipes are Sticky Chicky (a great recipe for chicken thighs), The Ladle in Red and the Cowabunga Beef Burgers. I've been trying to get my kids to eat more healthy foods over the past few months and this book is definitely helping. I haven't had a complaint from them yet! If you really enjoy cooking, having fun and want to make an effort to improve your health, I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, January 22, 2008
I received this book for Christmas from my girlfriend and it's the best cookbook I've ever owned! One of the few cookbooks with truly healthy and great tasting recipes. The recipes are so flavorful and satisfying. The tips and jokes in the margins are pretty cool too. Hopefully this book will help me to stay on track and drop some weight. I think I'm already shrinking! I immediately bought a copy for my sister who loves to cook.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Pun'y and Delicious!, January 31, 2009
This review is from: Eat, Shrink & Be Merry! Great-Tasting Food That Won't Go from Your Lips to Your Hips! (Paperback)
Yes, you read that title correctly - it's Shrink, not drink - and that's only the beginning of the fun word-puns that fill this very funny, very informative and truly delectable cookbook written by the already-successful Podleski sisters.

Eat, Shrink and Be Merry, Janet and Greta Podleski's third book, is absolutely wonderful. I love reading cookbooks from front to back, and they have made it so easy to want to read this book. Not only is it laugh-out-loud funny, but it's so chock-full of interesting and essential tips that you won't find yourself picking it up simply to browse for a recipe. It's not possible to just look for a recipe with this book. I know; I've tried.

No matter how many times I looked up a recipe in the index, I found it was impossible not to read every little tidbit on the page and just get to cooking. I did get to cooking though, and each and every recipe is fabulous. They've taken healthy eating to a whole new delicious level.

Do you know what really causes a beer belly? Do you know why it's important to thoroughly chew your food? Do you know where all that cholesterol in your body is coming from? You might be surprised at some of the answers, and these girls give those and many more in this book.

As the sisters would say, this is worth every 'penne'!

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best yet!, August 20, 2009

I have the previous 2 cookbooks and have bought them as gifts for my sister-in-law as well. This latest one in the series just has got to be the best. Every time we try a recipe, I cannot believe it is from a health-conscious cookbook. As someone who loves to cook and eat delicious food, but needs to keep calories, carbs and fat in check, it couldn't be more helpful. I love the listings of the nutritional value as I convert it to Weight Watchers point counts so easily. And I take some of their tidbits of information into my meetings. We have tried about 5 receipes from it and every recipe is easy to make and tastes wonderful. It is just the best! PS. The girl's sense of humour is the best in their nutritional count for the Chocolate Cake!

4.0 out of 5 stars Eat, Shrink and Be Merry, July 29, 2009
This review is from: Eat, Shrink & Be Merry! Great-Tasting Food That Won't Go from Your Lips to Your Hips! (Paperback)
I am enjoying this book very much. It has many decent recipes and, best of all, hints on losing weight and factoids. Have yet to try one of the recipes, but I am sure I will. The play on words they use throughout the book is hilarious. It is written by two sisters and they really seem to know their stuff. I had seen a review about it in either Womans Day or Family Circle (cant remember which one)and thought it would really be nice to add to my colletion of cookbooks.
