5.0 out of 5 stars Shrinky Dinks are making a come-back!!
I recently purchased this as a birthday present for a ten year old neice, and even though she had never heard of a "shrinky dink," she seemed really excited by it. Meanwhile, I liked it so much, that I got another one for me! I'm, uh, thirty years old.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's a'ight but not great
the projects are kind of boring, i mean it's stuff that anyone could really think of. i guess i was hoping for more of the fun cute creativity i come to expect from klutz. i'm disappointed in this book's lack of creativity and ingenuity. there's nothing here i couldn't have figured out for myself. the craft ideas are, turn a shrinky dink into a magnet by sticking a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Shrinky Dinks are making a come-back!!, November 9, 2001
This review is from: The Shrinky Dinks Book (Spiral-bound)
I recently purchased this as a birthday present for a ten year old neice, and even though she had never heard of a "shrinky dink," she seemed really excited by it. Meanwhile, I liked it so much, that I got another one for me! I'm, uh, thirty years old.

This is another great book from the Klutz people, and it's in a sturdy spiral binding (important, since you need it to lie flat!). Included are six sheets of special Shrinky Dink paper/plastic stuff (refill set of sheets sold separately, and highly recommended!), each big enough to do numerous Dinks, if you're careful. The rest of the book is made up of pages of designs for you to trace and color, ranging from very easy to very difficult (fun for everyone!). They also sprinkle helpful tips and craft ideas, throughout. Make keychains, zipper pulls, rings, magnets, whatever you (or the kids) can think up! You'll probably want to take a trip to the craft store for these accessories, OR-- take a look at the NEW Shrinky Dink stuff that's come out this holiday season! They now have a simple Shrinky Dink oven (like an Easy Bake oven) for kids, and refill activity packs that come with the supplies to make necklaces, keychains, etc. I'm really pleased that this fun craft is making a come-back! It's really something everyone in the family can enjoy. Super cool gift for girls, boys, and the young at heart!

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit of nostaligia, November 28, 1999
By
This review is from: The Shrinky Dinks Book (Spiral-bound)
I bought this as an early holiday gift for my niece who is in second grade. She has a brother in 2nd grade, and sisters in 3rd and 5th grades. When my niece opened the gift, she tossed it aside, having no idea what fun and excitement this brought to me and my siblings growing up. Later, she came to me and asked how you use Shrinky Dinks. Her 2 sisters and brother joined us immediately when they saw how fun it was to watch them shrink. It was a real blast for us all. The only thing is that you have to conserve paper as much as you can b/c there are only 5 sheets of paper. I am already online ordering refills after one use with 4 children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Way Cool...for everybody!, January 28, 2002

I bought this book figuring it would be a great thing to do. I was right! Filled from cover to cover with imaginative drawings to trace onto Shrinky-Dinks plastic/paper, you can spend hours with your nose inside. :) You simply pick a picture or design you like, trace and color it, cut it out, place on a cookie/baking sheet, and bake at the required temperature! In a matter of minutes your designs are shrunk. There are instructions on how to make keychains and jewelry, both of which actually turn out very nicely. I'm sure adults will like this book, too. You can buy refills for the Shrinky-Dinks plastic once you've used it all up, which you probably will!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Gift for A Child of the 80s, October 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Shrinky Dinks Book (Spiral-bound)
I remembered coloring, cutting out, and baking Shrinky Dinks of Smurfs and He-Man with my brothers and mom when I was younger. Aside from buying this book with memories in my heart, I liked how it promoted self creativity. The book had plenty of images and lettering to trace onto the blank Shrinky Dink "paper" or to get ideas from. The book also consolidated useful tips for decorating and baking Shrinky Dinks which I have never seen before. While the book provided complete instructions for making end products of jewelry and keychains, the most enjoyable part of this activity was watching creations shrink in the oven. What's great about Shrinky Dinks is that even if you don't completely color within the lines or trace a little off, the Shrinky Dink is extremely forgivable once it shrinks.

I recommend this book as a gift for a child of the 1980s or as a starter pack for "together activites" for families and Brownie troops.

I'm 30 years old and I remember having Shrinky Dinks as a child. I loved them sooo much. Coloring them and then watching them shrink up. I think I still have one around stuffed in a memory box of my childhood. Its an owl. I am now older and I have a 5 year old niece that I know would love this. I've looked everywhere for them. Toy stores. I even looked on Ebay to see if I can get an old set on auction but they are expensive. Then today I was Christmas shopping and found this book in Waldenbooks. A great big smile appeared on my face. But, I knew I wouldn't be happy with it cause I needed more plastic sheets. I saw there was a website....and here I am! You can buy additional sheets and that is exactly what I am looking for. I recommend buying this kit for children. Its hours of fun. Yahoo! I'm sooo excited.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really fun for your kids and you!, January 26, 2000
This review is from: The Shrinky Dinks Book (Spiral-bound)
What a great rainy day project this is! This book has lots of fun pictures to trace and color on clear shrinky-dink paper, then you cut them out, bake them in the oven, and they shrink to a tiny size. Kids can make charms for bracelets and necklaces. My almost 5-year old son spends hours on his creations. My just 3-year old daughter became entranced when I showed her how she can trace her favorite storybook characters, color them, and shrinkydink them. My husband and I even enjoyed this fun craft! There is no end to the fun and endless creativity when you can draw your own shrinkydinks and trace pictures from books, toys, anything your mind imagines!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Shrinky Dinks!, January 23, 2000

My dad bought me this book at the mall and I really loved it. The drawings are cute and easy to trace over and it's really neat to watch them shrink in the oven. If you like to make charm bracelets, necklace charms, earrings, or keychains this is the book for you! It's great fun and there are many many drawings for boys and girls. If you like to make crafts and have fun then I suggest you get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for many minutes for many ages, January 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Shrinky Dinks Book (Spiral-bound)
My daughter received the Shrinky Dinks book for Christmas, and the whole family is having fun making them and watching them shrink. My daughter (age 6) is making them into jewelry with her wire art kit and some other craft combo's. The rest of us aren't quite sure what we'll do with them, but they're really fun. Girls seem to catch on to them first but boys like them once they realize that they can draw anything - not just flowers and hearts. The shrinking process is very easy (about 2 minutes), and not messy at all. We're going to buy more sheets - not because we need them yet, but because my husband wants to make some bigger Shrinky Dinks.

All my brothers and sisters love shrinky dinks! This is a great item altogether! It's fun and easy to draw the pictures on the sheets, it's easy and it only takes a few minutes to bake. I had a lot of fun taking pictures from magazines and books, and I now have a collection of Harry Potter figures that I trased from the books. I highly recommend this book to everyone:0)

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a book, February 29, 2000
This review is from: The Shrinky Dinks Book (Spiral-bound)
I purchased this for my just turned 8 year old grandson and the whole family is having fun making necklaces, keychains and magnets. The kids were amazed at how much their designs shrunk in the oven. There is a wide range of designs to choose from so there is something for all ages to make. They'll have so much fun, you'll have to order more pages. The children do need adult supervision to bake. I'm ordering another book to be sent to my 8 year old niece.
