Book Description

March 1, 2000
Unabridged 6 Audio CD Edition

Is the shroud of Turin -- the linen cloth reputed to be the garment Jesus was buried in -- a medieval hoax, an occult phenomenon, a proof of Jesus' resurrection?

To answer these questions Robert K. Wilcox traveled halfway around the world interviewing sindonologists and sindonophiles (sindon is the Greek word for shroud) as well as shroud quacks, and consulting specialists in the half-dozen sciences touching upon the shroud.

Before you accept or reject Wilcox's proposed shroud theories, meet the people he interviewed, weigh the written evidence, consider the icons and mandylions, contemplate the contemporary reconstructions of the man in the shroud; then -- an only then -- will you be able to decide for your self whether the shroud of Turin is a medieval hoax, an occult phenomenon, or proof of Jesus' resurrection.

First edition hardbound publisher 1987 Macmillian Publishing, reprint edition available Disc-Us Books, Inc.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting if a bit dated, March 15, 2002

David Hricenak (Dingmans Ferry, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shroud (Hardcover)
This is the story of the author's journey in search of the truth about the Shroud of Turin. His personal experiences are interspersed with historical data. Wilcox interviews experts in every relevant field and opts for authenticity. The book was published before carbon dating was done but poimts out possible problems with this technique. An updated edition, addressing finding since 1977, would be nice, and skeptics won't be convinced but overall not a bad book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Investigative journalism at its best!, June 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is excellent. The author, Robert Wilcox, is a journalist. He wrote in the first person, taking the reader on a riveting detective trail. He interviewed every conceivable expert in Europe and America. Wilcox was thorough, systematic, and detailed. He translated complex scientific concepts to render them understandable to the layperson. The last chapter is deeply moving, bringing the reader through empirical
inductive/deduction to the only logical conclusion. I feel blessed to have read "Shroud."
