Some garden books have lovely full color photos of plants, and others have detailed information on growing and caring for those plants. This unusual book has both!With detailed photo - essays of topics including "Growing Climbers Through Trees and Shrubs" and "Taking Shrub Cuttings", this book has useful information for the beginner and the more experienced gardener. The six page description of how and why different types of clematis are pruned is the clearest and most helpful I've ever read. In addition there are lists like "Evergreen Wall Shrubs" and "Shrubs with Variegated Foliage" - Silver and White or Yellow and Gold. This book includes tender varieties along with many hardy ones. And the pictures are invariably well annotated, so you can find out just which variety of plant you're admiring in the photos. This is a book you'll browse through many times just for the pictures, but you'll also find yourself studying the useful information to improve your gardening skills. |
