Yes, it was a film festival favorite, but it should have been given a wide release, because practically every packed showing reduced people to tears of joy. By now it is probably too late to tell you not to read the Amazon description (and definitely do not read the back of the case). Both give up a valuable secret of the film and for no better reason that they had no idea how to market it just like the distributors that viewed it in their private screenings without a real audience reaction. Instead, bean counters were perplexed and likened this fantastic film to a throwback of Frank Capra and "nobody is doing films like that anymore. Oh, let's see, "It's a Wonderful Life," "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," "It Happened One Night". No, distributors are too busy littering our movie screens with washed up aging actors wanting to relive their good old action days with more rage and mayhem to divert the viewing audience from their terrible cosmetic surgery. "Shuffle" is a wonderful break from the regurgitated crap we are constantly served. It's sole purpose is to enlighten and entertain with one brilliant stroke after the other by it's writer and director, Kurt Kuenne. Want a good, simple description of the movie; "Shuffle" is about a man with narcolepsy that keeps waking up at different ages. The question is, why? Buy this movie and revel in its complexities of the heart and the ability it has to make you view life in a whole other way. By the way, do yourself a favor and watch the black and white version.

To provide full disclosure about this review, I am huge fan of Kurt Kuenne's films. If you haven't yet seen Dear Zachary - you need to. In any case, Shuffle was a well-paced movie that kept me thinking and trying to solve the mystery of lost time. I don't want to give away spoilers but the back and forth through different aspects of the main character's life provided a wonderful mosaic into the life choices he made and how funny fate is in terms of changing the game on people. Kurt's signature film style comes through with light and dark moods supported by outstanding orchestral overtones that are always well timed for big emotional crescendos.

This is one of those movies that will spark more questions at the end in terms of understanding the journey you have been on the whole time as a participant in the protagonists puzzle. The film is really trying to make a point around how we step through life and what each of the moments mean ultimately. There are several emotional punches littered throughout as the movie dances around certain life and death issues so have some Kleenex nearby. I was ultimately satisfied with the movie's construction - I chose to watch the BW Directors cut version which added a bit more heaviness to the story. In any case - definitely worth watching and while there is no gore or chains of foul language there are some adult themes so provide guidance for kids.

I never heard of this movie until April 2013. I stumbled upon it, and I am glad that I did. I must admit that I like the time travel stuff, ("Peggy Sue Got Married", "Somewhere in Time"). This movie had me hooked from start to finish. And the finish was not what I expected. When you thought it was ready to end it continued to an even better ending.
Well worth the time to watch.

I love this film! I have seen it twice on the big screen. First at The Phoenix Film Festival where it won Best Picture and Best Director! Very well deserved prizes I might add. Then at Phoenix Comicon where it was the opening night film of the Comicon Film Festival!

The film makes me think of a cross between an episode of The Twilight Zone and the film: Memento! The theatrical version was in Black and White. It was truly meant to be seen in Black and White. The DVD has both a black and white and color version. I recommend watching the black and white first!

The Writer, Director, Composer Kurt Kuenne is extremely talented at what he does. He pays a great attention to detail. Additionally, T.J. Thyne is perfect as the lead actor in Shuffle.

Saw this at the Phoenix film festival last year...it was one of the movies I went into only because I had time to kill before the flick I really wanted to see. Well, I ended up missing whatever that movie was because Shuffle SUCKED ME IN! It is truly an experience - I haven't felt this engaged as a viewer since I watched Momento. On a side note: a fun part of the viewing experience was we got to see the Director speak - he did a Q&A when the film was done and he was AWESOME! Nothing like you'd expect a Hollywood director to be. Extremely down to earth, humble and just a genuinely nice guy. It makes me feel good to support a person like that.

When I bought the DVD I was a little worried that it wouldn't stand the test of time for me upon a second viewing. Wrong. Blown away again and saw things I didn't realize were there the first time round. I've already given my copy away on a quest to spread the word about this little gem. I haven't found a diamond in the rough so plainly surprising since I picked up Boondock Saints at a gas station bargain bin.

Shuffle - watch it!!
