You'll listen to this CD again...,
This review is from: The Shuffleboard Queens (Audio CD)
"The Shuffleboard Queens" is the perfect name for this album. Like the song from which it takes its name, the album is at once funny, thoughtful, and a little poignant. Deirdre spans all kinds of musical styles to drive home her insights on rogue boob fairies, new shoes, and America's sweethearts, cheerleaders. The album itself lures you in with the uptempo and hilarious "We Fit Right", and maintains that pulse until "Marrow of My Bone" shows you that Deirdre's not just goofing around. The lyrics are clever, and her vocals range from playful to endearing, without sinking into sappiness. This is my favorite album of the new millenium...pick it up and I think you'll agree.

Enjoyable for everyone,

Dierdre Flint has universal appeal. In fact, just about everyone I've played her CD for or taken to one of her shows has walked away a fan -- usually with their own copy of The Shuffleboard Queens. Her songs are a wonderful blend of intellectual, sincere and funny; yet her serious songs are poetic and melancholy, especially the Jim Croce-esque "Marrow of My Bone". She is the perfect mix of Julie Brown (the "Earth Girls Are Easy" version, not the Downtown one) and William F. Buckley, only funnier than both of them, and certainly more identifyable. Her lyrics paint images almost all of which we could see ourselves in (even that fishbowl overlooking the Jersey Bay). Being in the Top Ten Folk Bestsellers is definitely deserved.

Guaranteed smiles. The songs here range from hilarious (King of the Rollerama, Cheerleader) to inspired introspection (Marrow of my Bone). Deirdres funky middle-eastern flavored tribute to a Belly Dancing teacher (Introduction to Belly Dancing)is one of the more beautiful songs I have ever heard. The title track is another touching song about making up the distance put between friends by time and circumstance. If your a Springsteen fan you'll love "Fishlands", a clever Bruce inspired tune about life in a bayfront fishbowl. You could say single women will find the most to relate to in Deirdres lyrics, but you don't have to be a single woman to appreciate her extraordinary talent as a singer/songwriter. Enjoy!
