A convenient addition to any cutlery collection, this user-friendly bread knife by Shun Classic features a serrated blade that measures 8 inches long. Use the knife to effortlessly slice anything from rustic artisan breads and baguettes to dessert items like angel food cake or chocolate tart. The knife creates clean cuts with no tearing or crushing of food to worry about. Even more, its offset stainless-steel bolster keeps knuckles safe and allows for enhanced comfort and control. Overall, the offset bread knife measures approximately 15-1/2 by 3 by 1 inches.
Like other knives in Shun's Classic collection, the knife comes precision-forged in Japan by renowned blade manufacturer KAI. Its eye-catching beauty starts with a VG-10 stainless-steel blade, which features 16 layers of SUS410 high-carbon stainless steel on each side, producing a 33 layered Damascus look, but without the rusting problems associated with Damascus. The Damascus detailing not only enhances the knife's aesthetic appeal, but it also prevents morsels from sticking and helps maintain the integrity of food when slicing. The knife's sleek good looks continue on into its handle. Offering a D-shaped design, the unique ebony Pakkawood handle consists of a fused blend of hardwood veneers and resin to exceptionally noteworthy results. Its steel end-cap offers an attractive finishing touch, and the knife carries a limited lifetime warranty. Though dishwasher-safe, Shun recommends washing the knife by hand for best results.
Born of the ancient samurai-sword-making tradition and hand-finished for precision and beauty, Shun Classic is an ideal choice for anyone buying their first Japanese knife or 50th. The high-quality line of cutlery makes a worthwhile addition to any chef's arsenal of tools--it's used by professional chefs and home cooks alike. Produced in the widest variety of specialized styles, the Classic line features both traditional European blade shapes and innovative cutting-edge designs.
Shun Classic's amazingly sharp blade is famous for both edge retention and ease of sharpening. Each blade has a core of VG-10 "Super Steel" with a Pattern Damascus cladding of 32 layers of high-carbon stainless steel--16 layers on either side. While the wood grain pattern enhances the knife's beauty, it also adds durability and stain resistance, and reduces friction when cutting.

A knife that pleases all,

This review is from: Shun Classic 8-Inch Offset Bread Knife (Kitchen)
This is an excellent knife and complements a number of other knives I have extremely well.
It cuts with a degree of precision that I have just not found with other bread knives (and I have used most of the well-known brands) which can sometimes be too flimsy and move around when cutting bread with a hard crust such as a good sour-dough loaf or they are too thick or become blunt too easily. Also being offset has distinct advantages particularly in not hitting your knuckles when slicing. This knife is one of the workhorses in my cooking exploits and having a reliable knife that cuts consistently across many bread/cakes types is really helpful whether it is a hard crust loaf as mentioned above or it is a cake I am slicing horizontally to fill with fresh cream and fruit this knife is always a delight to use. Even my wife who is not particularly interested in knifes and cooking loves to use this knife and have said on more than one occasion that this is the best knife we own. Simply it is a delight to use and has that added advantage of being beautiful to look at as well as being part of the truly excellent Shun knife range. If I had to limit myself to three knives then this would certainly be one of the three (fortunately I don't). Highly recommended!

This knife is an excellent tool. It looks stunning, and does exactly what it's supposed to. I've tried bread knives that aren't offset, and dislike them because your hand always hits the board before you've cut all the way through. With an offset knife this isn't a problem plus you can cut faster because you don't have to worry about your hand getting in the way. Shun makes excellent knives and this is no exception.

This review is from: Shun Classic 8-Inch Offset Bread Knife (Kitchen)
I purchased this knife for my boyfriend's birthday; he already had a Shun chef's knife and paring knife and this seemed the logical next knife to round out a set. He initially said buying a Shun bread knife was too expensive and that a less-expensive/non-name-brand would be just fine for a bread knife, yet after using this knife to slice a crusty loaf of bread he forgot all about saying that ;-) It cuts through hard, crusty bread like it's butter - and you do not have to put a lot of pressure on it while cutting. Very pleased with this purchase and it does come in a nice gift box, as well.
