I bought this as a gift for my grandma and she absolutely loves them. She no longer uses her Kitchen Aid knives and primarily uses these sharp knives. I do not consider this a negative but she constantly tells me that they are "too sharp" and that she is afraid she will cut herself one day. As I said, that is not a downside and such an incident could be avoided through safe and aware usage!

Anyhow, I have used them a couple times and they seem well balanced and are very ergonomic and would recommend them without hesitation.

Very sharp, I use it to cut vegetables and nothing harsh. It feels very nice and balanced very good. Definitely good quality here and better than the Henkels S Grade that I been using for a decade. Then I bought some cheap stainless steel ones at Walmart that cut well, so I ended up using the cheap ones more just because I am a careless chef and rather use a beater everyday. Another reason is because of safety, I get worried my kids will use the Shun and cut themselves.

Excellent knives at a good price for the quality. They cut better than any kitchen knife that I've ever had. These are professional grade tools.

Purchased these Shun Utility and Chef knives during the lighting deal.

* Appearance - they are visually very good looking knives.
* Weight-these knives are light weight. But you will get use to it quickly.
* Sharpness - very sharp and effortless for cutting and slicing.
* Price - These knives worth the price. But they are still a little pricy. If you don't need both, just get the one you need.

IMO - I love both knives. The 6 inch utility for all the small stuff like cutting veggie. The 8 inch chef knife for everything else. I have some German knives at home. These Shun knives are just better knives than the German ones.

Purchased these on whim as an anniversary gift. We had been using a cheapo victorinox knife and some old chicago cutlery knives that needed re-sharpening every five seconds. What a tremendous difference in quality. Very happy with weight, sharpness and overall balance.
