This is a gorgeous knife. As soon as it arrived I was in awe of it. I also love the handle, it fits in the hand very well, and lets you grip outside of the danger zone of the backside of your knife. The blade is razor sharp, I have no doubs that a fast swing could cleanly remove a finger (bone included).

Now to the dissapointing part of this knife. After only having the knife for about a week, I was cleaning it and tapped the side of my sink. Not hard, not even enough to make me take a second look at the knife. Then when I put it up I saw it, the tip bent, not bad, but enough to notice. Having a lot of experience with knives, I just kind of frowned and give it a light push back into place. With almost no force applied the tip snaps off. Now I'm officially upset, for a knife of this price I expect much more. Again, I shrug it off becaause it's nothing I can't have ground down. Now I'm treating the knife with kit gloves, not even so much as washing it with a rough sponge. Everything went well for about another week. Then without cause I notice the tip has begun fragmenting off. Now it's in too bad of shape to be fixed and will soon be unusable.

I sincerely pray that there was a defect in the making of the blade because I do want to give these guys another try, I absolutely love the look, feel, and function of this knife; but be warned, handle this knife like it's piece of antique china.

Goodbye Henckel's and hello Shun! After using Henckel's knives for years, I discovered Shun. It is incredibly well balanced, light weight, and sharp...not to mention, a true work of art. It appears that Shun is the new standard in cutlery and it is well deserved. I look forward to adding to my collection.

This knife is everything I expected it to be. The blade is very sharp out of the box. It can cut incredibly precisely, and requires nearly no pressure to slice. Aesthetically it is a beautiful blade as well, and will look good in any kitchen. The handle design allows this knife to be used comfortably by lefties like myself, as well as right handed users. I highly recommend Shun if you are looking to purchase reliable high end knives.

I love my new Shun paring knife. I use my knives a lot, for many catered events.

It makes quick, and easy work, of all of my paring needs. The 16 degree cutting angle, on each side, and the flat grind, with the quick taper , make cutting veges, and fruit, a pleasure. The Isuchime ,or hammered look ,helps the knife to be smooth, and to slide easily, thru the food, it is cutting.

This knife has a great feel when in use ,and is easy to handle, and sharpens easily . I give this knife ,my highest recommendation, for ease of use, workmanship , and steel quality.

I hope this review ,will help you to make an informed, buying, decision.

Love Shun knives, especially their upper end lines. This one's edge is so finely tapered so deep into the knife you can actually hear the thinness of the blade - and that thin blade cuts superbly. In fact, it slices cheese better than most supposedly dedicated cheese knives. HIGHLY recommended. ...However, if you are rough on knives or like to throw them into a dishwasher, this won't be a knife you'll like.

If you love to cook, do yourself a favor and try a few Shun knives. I have owned many expensive German knives such as Henkles. I still use them and think they are great, however, Shun are twice as sharp. These knives have set a new bar.
