This review is from: Shun Steel 7-Inch Wide Santoku Knife (Kitchen)
i was impressed with the original 6.5 inch santoku when i used one at a friend's house for a big family dinner. i own a few of the wustof knives and was under the impression that they were the best knives in the world since so many of the people on the internet kept raving about them so much. no way now. the shun knives are so much sharper and so much easier to use than the wustof that it isn't even funny. When i saw the WIDE santoku i knew i had to have it, since it would provide more width of blade when running the blade up and down the knuckles as recommended for fast slicing/chopping. everything a santoku should be and more. won't trade this knife for an armful of german steel. anyone want some free wustofs??

incredibly sharp, cut through vegetables and produce like butter. i don't know if it's my cutting board or the knife itself, but i feel like the knife sticks a bit more to the board than i want it to (can't get a smooth slicing motion through); probably from it being sharp enough that it's cutting the board too!
beautiful product, it was a steal at $65.

i have been using my 4 star henckels santoku for 6 yrs. i get it professionally sharpened and have been very happy with it. i got this Shun knife because my dad liked my henckels and thought he may want it. It was on sale @ amazon for about $70. Cool deal !
So of course I had to try it when i received it...and OMG - I sliced a pork chop for a stir fry and it cut through like butta... i then took my henckels santoku and tried a few slices...it just doesn't even come close. Guess who is keeping the Shun? Update: i still love this knife. but buyer beware. you may need to get a new butcher block. I ended up getting a butcher block on amazon with a slot that can accommodate a cleaver. This blade is W I D E. |
