2.0 out of 5 stars Won't work for some brands of roller covers, February 26, 2010

This review is from: Shur-Line 08609 9-Inch Easy Release Roller Frame (Tools & Home Improvement)
Great concept and design--but doesn't work with all brands of roller covers.
We had this roller frame for a couple years and it worked great for several different paint jobs.
But recently we couldn't get it to lock-on to new roller covers we bought (two different brands). I didn't find out it wasn't working properly until I'd gotten the roller cover loaded with paint. Then discovered it wasn't rolling freely. After lots of monkeying (and mess) we got it to barely function.

Later on I tried another brand of roller cover. I fiddled and fiddled with it (before getting into the paint) but to no avail. The locking mechanism had to be forced into the lock position--and then the roller wouldn't spin. Maybe it will only work with Shur-Line roller covers. Brands that didn't work with the Shur-Line roller frame were "EZPAINTR" by NewellRubbermaid and Master Painter from True Value. Perhaps a slight difference in the interior diameter of the roller covers rendered them impossible to use with the Shur-Line locking roller frame. If you have this roller, I recommend using the same brand roller covers.
