If you're doing live sound or a budget, or just starting to get into decent recording gear, this is definitely not a bad place to start. You can put an SM57 in front of just about anything and get a usable sound. A lot of people love them on snare's and guitar cabs, and get fantastic sounds from them. I'm sure you could get BETTER sound from other mics, but it's a very versatile mic, and is a great bang for your buck. It would never hurt to have 3 in your mic locker... especially if you're doing live sound. I haven't used mine live so I can't comment on the included rim mounts as I use stands in the studio, but they seem like they'd get the job done.Given the choice, I'd probably prefer to own an AKG D112 over the Beta 52... but I couldn't pass up the price of this pack. I have both, and use them for different things, depending on the sound I want. I'm definitely not complaining about the Beta 52. I'm super happy with it, and it definitely has its place in the studio and venue. The Beta 52 is less expensive... especially if you buy it in this pack. So why limit yourself to one kick mic? Start with this pack, and if you feel like you need another mic down the road when you have extra cash, get a different one. The more the better. If your goal is to mic a drum kit on a budget, get these and a budget pair of small diaphragm condensers for overheads (MXL 603s perhaps), and you're set. If you know exactly what you want and don't mind spending a bit more, buy different mics. If you're on a budget (studio OR live), are just getting into the realm of decent gear and need a starting point, or happen to be searching for a few SM57's and a Beta 52, this is the package for you!

This is the best value in microphones around. You get 3 SM57s, which you can (and should) use for instruments other than drums--like guitar amps. Plus, you get a kick mic that doubles as a GREAT bass amp mic. Combine this package with a nice condenser, and you have a full complement of studio mics. This is THE BEST deal you will find on this mic package.

Great price on TOP quality mics!,
This review is from: Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit (Electronics)
These microphones are VERY high quality. SM57's are clear, clean and bulletproof... and after I put the Beta-52 in my kick drum, the 18s shook harder and the 15s punched tighter. The reason for my review, however, isn't to rave about these mics (they speak for themselves, do some research), but to rave about the PRICE. Just buying 3 SM57s individually will cost you $300. Add the Mic clips at $40 a piece, and you're at $420 already, and that doesn't even count the Beta 52, which is now cheaper than free! (and it's the most expensive mic in the kit!). What a deal. I bought 2. At first I wasn't sure I could use the other Beta 52, but I couldn't see paying MORE to buy the other 57s I needed... and as it turns out, that "extra kick mic" sounds GREAT on my 18" floor tom! If you need mics and want quality and aren't rich... BUY THIS SET!

Drum Mic kit,

If you are playing in a large venue and putting drums through the PA or recording, this is one of the two drum mic kits to get. The other kick drum mic to consider is the Audix D6, but the Shure B52 is used by many professionals, too. As far as the SM57's in the it go, they are the ultimate desert island mic - good on anything. The rim connectors to hold the mics work fine - you will need a small stand to attach the B52 with for the kick drum. Overall, this is one of the best kits out there at a reasonable price - it comes complete with a nice carry case as well.

After using lower priced, lower quality mics on my drums, I finally saved up and bought these. WOW! The difference is amazing. Toms, snare, bass drum, cymbals, guitar cabinet....all recorded crystal clear. There IS a reason these are the "industry standard." Amazing mics!

Sounds better than I hear it live!,

I Recorded a little rudimentary snare drumming with the SM57, and with my pork pie snare, I hear it live with a lot of ring and overtone. However, on the recording, the drum sounds as clean as I have ever heard it! It really amazed me how great of a sound was produced out of these microphones! The SM 57's also work great with amps and insturments. The Beta-52 provides a great punch as well. The only complaint i have are the clips. They hook on to boom cymbal stands as well as drums, but they are hard to position on drums. If put on a cymbal stand, the mic rattles a little in the recording. Other than that, these mics are awesome. I gave this 5 stars because the quality of the mics out do the irratating clips. You will not find a better mic kit for this price.

I just started recording my own music and these Mics are the best purchase I've made so far. They're much cheaper in a package and comes with everything you need to mount onto a drumset. You'll need to supply your own cables though.I made a few preliminary recordings with this kit plus 2 Rode NT5's for overheads and the raw recording sounded very professional. After a little bit of tweaking and running a multi-band compressor, the piece sounded awesome! The SM57's are built to last. I've seem some torture tests and these things just don't seem to want to break. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

The best mic kit for drummers on a budget.,

I'll be honest - I'm picky with music gear. It always seems like I find annoying faults with almost any music gear I buy and it's probably my own fault because I set expectations too high and I don't usually have enough cash to buy what I really want. I tend to do what most people in my situation do - look for the best bang for the buck. I guess I just expect too much bang. This time things were a bit different. My original price point for drum mics was $200.00 but I kept reading posts on various message boards where people upgraded to this mic kit and wished they would have just done that in the first place rather then spending $200.00 now for so-so mics and then later spending more on something better, like these mics. I bit the bullet and decided to get something more mid-range right out of the gate. What I didn't expect was how blown away I would soon be! These mics are AWESOME! You get 3 SM57s and a legendary Beta 52A. You also get a great hard-shell case and all of the hardware to hook up the SM57s (you will probably need a mini-boom stand for the Beta). Hooking everything up is a snap. I like playing a 4 piece kit so this mic kit is perfect. I mic my high tom, low tom, snare and bass drum. 5 piece players can get away by miking both high toms with a single mic or if you have 2 floor toms you might need a separate mic stand to get in between the toms (or you could just buy another SM57 for a hundred bucks). The SM57s pick up the toms amazingly well. I really don't see the need to ever upgrade, I am 100% happy with these as tom mics. The Beta 52 is nothing short of stunning. I still can't believe how good this mic is! One great thing about these mics is how versatile they are. The SM57s work amazing for toms, great for snare but they also work really well for miking other instruments like guitars. Please check out YouTube and search for "Shure SM57" - you will find that plenty of people use this mic to record guitars and other instruments. The 57 is good for voice as well but not amazing. The Beta 52 is amazing for bass drums but I was absolutely floored when I miked my band-mates bass guitar with this - It sounds 100% professional! I really couldn't believe it. I use only these mics for all my home-recording (except voice). Currently I rely on my tom mics to pick up cymbals (which works decently) but If you want to really pick up your cymbals you will need a couple overheads. If you are looking for mics on the cheap then do yourself a favor and spend a little more for this kit. I was worried that after spending $400.00 on mics I would have buyers remorse but that isn't the case. I am blown away. It seems like just the Beta 52 alone would be a $400+ mic - it's just such a great mic. If you purchase these mics individually you would spend about $500 and you wouldn't get the mounting hardware or the case. This is a STEAL - even when it's not on sale! You will not do better for $400.00 so stop searching around already! Yes, there are better mics out there but this is a heck of a kit for a home studio on a budget I assure you.

Great Starter Kit for Drum Recording,
This review is from: Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit (Electronics)
I bought this drum mic package to start on drum recording, as I thought it would be a good way to start. A lot of people will want to buy other packages that have 6 mics and include overheads, but are cheaper and less quality. I personally do not recommend this. I use two of the Shure SM57s as overheads for now, and I will eventually invest in two good quality mics for overheads. These mics are recording standards and will be useful for years to come, and not only for drums. The price on amazon is the also the cheapest price you will find. I recommend this for anyone who wants to start recording drums (or guitars/bass as well) with good quality mics at a great price.
