4.0 out of 5 stars Full sound in a quiet enviroment.
This was really not a pre-meditated plan, but after I tried all the different pieces in the shure fit-kit I realized that I liked the sound much better with the yellow "earplug" style foams. After a week I realized that they do not say spongy for ever. the foams are definately more of a disposable item than the soft plastic ear pieces.

But that said, it all...

Disposable little tiny pieces of yellow foam which do a nice job of sealing your ears and providing comfort, however, they get dirty very quickly no matter how often you clean your ears before each use, and than you have to toss them and put in another pair.

This review is from: Shure EA120 Replacement Foams (Yellow) for Shure E3c, E3g, E4c, E4g, E5c, I3, I4c, E3c-n and E4c-n models - 10 Pair (Electronics)

But that said, it all comes down to this - using the foams for some reason seem to render the music with more definition, and particularly the base seems to have significantly more juice and details. Im not a audio geek, so that this with a "a grain of salt", but I spend hours one afternoon swapping earpieces on the headset... and yes, the foams deliver more defined sound.. but they also quiet the room MUCH more than the other styles and let you play the same piece at about 25% less volume..

Seriously, since all the styles came with your Shure headset, you probably already know this, But my vote for music quality is the yellow foams, for easy removel and maybe more wearing comfort use the soft clear or blacks.

I only give them a 4 because its still a headache to squize them to "install" before listening. great sound and beautiful quiet on the airplane.. but its not a perfect solution.. but then again. what is..?

Tip to make them last longer....put a little anti-bacterial dish washing liquid in your hands and wash them with warm water. They become clean and bright yellow again and only take a little while to dry. Love the sound isolation and comfort of the foam! A must-have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Didn't realize how worn out my old ones were!, August 16, 2006

After 8 months of thinking, "these (foam inserts that came with my E3c's)will last forever" I broke down and ordered these replacements as the originals were getting quite dirty. Whoa! The new ones made me realize how much my originals had hardened. My great sound and comfort was back - and the decay was so gradual I didn't even realize what I was missing!

So, 5 stars for performance, but 3 stars for what amounts to some pretty expensive foam ear plugs. Avg=4stars.

If you have a lot of disposable income,(pun intended) I suppose they may be worthwhile. However I've switched to the silicon as they are washable, last longer and with a little patience, get almost (though not exactly) as comfortable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Shure users, August 10, 2006

I agree with the other reviews on the foam inserts for my Shure earpieces in so far as they really do render the music much better than the other earpieces that come with the headphones. And talk about noise canceling! With these in your ears, you will hear nothing of the outside world. I use them when I'm riding my motorcycle and they are the only earpieces I've found that adequately cuts wind and engine noise while doing 80 down the highway. :)

Where I disagree with others is that I find these earpieces to be much more comfortable than the more perminent ones. A perfect fit every time.

The one shortcoming, if you can call it that, is that they are disposable so you'll go through a pair every few months - I use mine daily and they last two months (three if I ignore a little dirt).

Stock up! Once you've become accustomed to these, you'll never be able to use ear buds again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best all round Shure Ear Piece, December 1, 2008

Shure offers several ear pieces for the E3, E4, and other similarly designed headphones. I find the yellow foam sleeves the best in terms of fit and ambient noise reduction. By design however; any headphone which fits in the ear canal will never be as good as a headphone which sits on- or covers the entire ear.

I have several complaints: Most notibly how expensive this simple piece costs. I tried making a similar device using ear plugs designed for shooting but the headphone wouldn't stay attached to the plug. (I was not going to risk pouring glue near the tiny speakers.) Also "memory foam" loses its "rebound" quickly with daily use. I can use an ear piece about ten times before it does not expand full enough to enclose the ear and prevent exterior noise. Finally, I do not like the optic yellow color.

Compared to the hard silicone pieces that came with my head phones, these are vastly superior. Compared to the rubber bear buds, the rubber earbuds are easier to put in your ear but once they get sweaty, they are slippery and fall out repeatedly. I also have a pair of the "Triple Flange" designed Shure Ear Buds. They are very good but still lose their tackiness once you start to sweat (I use my E3's exclusively for working out. If I'm in a cafe or other public place where I want noise reduction, I use a Bose product which sits on the outside of the ear.)

For the E3 / E4 headphones the Yellow Foam Sleeves work best for me. If the cost, color, and longevity were better, I would have rated this product much higher.

Respectfully submitted, K.K.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must have for shure earphones, February 14, 2008

I have tried many times of sleeves for my Shure 3C. I even had custom sleeves specifically made for my ears. None worked as well as this one. It stays in the ear very well and provides excellent isolation. The only drawback is that you have to replace it fairly often.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little, yellow, different, April 13, 2007

If you have a pair of Shure headphones, you will need more of these! Probably the most expensive way of fitting the headphones to your ears, but they sound and feel so much better than any of the other modes of fitting.
My only criticism is that they get dirty very quickly, and could last a little longer. Usually I get about a week of use out of them, though rotating 2 pairs at a time often helps them regain their shape between uses and prolongs their life.

I have very small ears and was having trouble justifying the cost of my new E3c's until I got these. Now, I understand they may be discontinued. I'm getting more while I can.

I rate them a three for only one reason ... price. Ridiculous. They work great. They do the job. They last pretty OK. I like this style best of all the Shure options, so I really have no choice but to be robbed over and over again. There is no other alternative that I know of. I am NOT knocking Amazon or the reseller at all. It just is what it is.
