Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Model 55SH Series II provides the Shure classic UNlDYNE® II design coupled with modern acoustic components to meet today's performance standards. This microphone is excellent for vocal pickup with its characteristic Shure presence peak.

The 55SH Series II has a cardioid (unidirectional) polar pickup pattern that minimizes sound pickup from the rear of the microphone. This allows the Model 55SH Series II to be used in close proximity to loudspeakers without creating feedback problems, and it can perform under adverse acoustic conditions where omnidirectional microphones cannot.

The 55SH Series II has a low-impedance balanced output designed for connection to microphone inputs rated at 75 to 300 ohms. The microphone features a cartridge shock mount to reduce stand noise, an On/Off switch, and an attached, self-tensioning, 5/8"-27 thread swivel mount.

This microphone is ideal for public address or theater-stage sound systems, as well as for broadcasting, recording, and other sound applications where a stand-mounted microphone with a classic look is desirable.

  • Classic appearance, modern performance
  • Frequency response tailored for speech, vocals and instrumental music
  • Cardioid directional pattern for optimum performance in adverse acoustic environments
  • Shock-mounted cartridge minimizes stand-transmitted noise, ensures quiet operation
  • Rugged die cast case and mechanical design for reliability under rigorous conditions
  • Self-tensioning swivel mount, permits tilting through 45 degrees forward and 80 degrees backward

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I even hoped, September 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Shure 55SH Series II Iconic Unidyne Vocal Microphone (The Elvis Microphone) (Electronics)
I sing lead vocals for a 20-piece Big Band, and I also own a Web business for which I do audio recording; so, I wanted a mic that works well for both applications. The Shure mic exceeds my expectations.

From a live perspective, the mic does a great job of clearly picking up the lows and mids in my voice. It gives a very true representation of my tone, and doesn't accentuate plosives at all -- even when the volume is cranked up. I've gotten lots of compliments from musicians who can't believe how inexpensive the mic is for the quality. Plus, it looks FANTASTIC on stage.

Recording is great, too. It picks up vocals without pulling in too much ambient noise. It has a warm, well-rounded sound.

I love this mic!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Enough For The King Of Rock 'n Roll, December 12, 2008
This review is from: Shure 55SH Series II Iconic Unidyne Vocal Microphone (The Elvis Microphone) (Electronics)
The Shure 55SHII is the direct decendant of the original Shure 55 that Elvis made famous. That first 55 was actually much bigger than the following models and was affectionately called the "bird cage". I have a couple of those large 55s in my mic collection.

Today's 55SHII takes the second, scaled down model, adds an on/off switch and has updated the mic capsule to a quieter, more modern sounding cardiod pattern, which helps control feedback while onstage near monitors or front of house speakers.

The recent line that I've seen don't have the fit and finish that the originals have, but they still have that same classic look. And they sound even better today.

So if it's the classic rock 'n roll look you want, there's really no other mic to get. Grab a couple of Shure 55SHII "Elvis" mics while they are still making them. If nothing else, they will look cool sitting on your desk or a shelf of memorabilia!

5.0 out of 5 stars Feels great and works great, June 10, 2010
This review is from: Shure 55SH Series II Iconic Unidyne Vocal Microphone (The Elvis Microphone) (Electronics)
This mic feels great in your hands, has a lot of heft and makes its presence known.
For long periods of singing you better get a stand for this thing. The sound is great as it picks up everything. You'll want some type of digital filter to help block out all the background it can grab.

The only complaint is that while you are holding it, it is easy to switch it off as there is no way to lock it into the on position. So be careful there.

Otherwise, higly recommended. great mic.
