Product Description

Lose the extra earphone wires - now just one works for cell phone and music player. The I4c combines ultra-premium sound quality via High-Definition driver with Tuned Port Technology. The additional utility of the VoicePort(tm) microphone and a multi-function control switch lets you plug in both your portable audio player and mobile phone at the same time. The dual connector (1/8" and 2/32") design provides one connector for your mobile phone and one for your audio player. The 3-function control pod lets you switch between music and the phone and includes a volume control and microphone mute button. The I4c uses the same technology as Shure's award winning ESeries line of products. The I4c includes a full selection of sleeves to ensure a perfect fit and a carrying case. Shure makes audio equipment - microphones, earphones, mixers, etc. that are used by professional musicians the world over. Shure knows sound. If your sound is important to you, you want earphones engineered with the same kind of technology that your favorite divas and bands use to be sure they can hear themselves during a performance. That's Shure's "Sound Isolating" technology. Rather than introducing external elements to block out ambient sound (as noise cancelling earphones do), the Shure system creates a sealed environment that keeps noise out, without covering it up by injecting noise-cancelling artifacts that can interfere with your calls or your music. You'll hear details you never heard before.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great quality though could be better designed, March 22, 2006

The pluses are what you would expect from Shure headphones; exeptional sound quality, great sound isolation, durable cords.

The negatives were much less expected. Unlike the photo on amazon, the connector which switches between headset connector and headphone connector is very large.

I was also disapointed with the functionality. I had hoped that It would automatically switch to the phone when it rang, or at least provide some indication that it rang. When you have two devices (iPod and BBerry in my case) hooked up to a long cord with large connector, you can't expect people to keep their phone on their belt or in their pocket so that they can feel it vibrate. You also can't expect them to hear the phone ring given the excellent sound isolation that these headphones provide.

Ultimately I think I need to wait for an integrated phone / mp3 player that automatically switches over as calls come in and that supports a standardized headset/headphone adapter with built in mute and volume buttons.

2.0 out of 5 stars Geek squad design, weak sound, March 24, 2006

This review is from: Shure I4c Integrated Sound Isolating Earphones with Dual Connector (Electronics)
As I do a considerable amount of traveling, I thought that I would treat myself to some incredible headphones to use with my ipod and treo. Researching the market, the product description can lead one to see these earphones as a real possibility.

The reality is that the design is quite bulky and not discrete to wear, in short, geeky looking. The sound lacks any kind of richness that one would expect from a premium earphone. God bless the 30-day money back guarantee ;-)
