Not as good as E2C's,
By
This review is from: Shure SE110 Sound Isolating Earphone with Balanced Armiture Driver, White (Electronics)
I have had a pair of Shure E2C earphones for nearly three years and I absolutely love them: perfect fit, great sound. I finally had to look for another set because the wire jacket began to crack and got progressively worse to the point where the wire is now fully exposed and starting to unravel. Since they are past their warranty, Shure wanted $60 plus shipping to repair them, so I decided to look around and try one of their newer models. I found these SE110's for $49.95 on clearance (regular $119.99, I paid $99 for the E2C's), so I figured I couldn't go wrong. I was mistaken. While the sound quality is better than you will find on any other $50 earphones, it is definitely not worth $120, and not nearly as good as the E2C's; and the design has changed for the worse also. My E2C's fit perfectly and comfortably in my ears using the medium size Flex sleeves, forming a great sound-isolating seal. The SE110's have a slightly different shape, and I have tried all of the included Flex and Black Foam sleeves and cannot get a comparable fit. I am now thinking I should have just spent the money to have my E2C's repaired. I never thought a Shure product which was supposed to be a newer model of my current product could be so much worse.

A friend of mine who is an electrical engineer recommended these headphones based on their frequency response. I bought the Bose in ear headphones thinking that they sounded good. These are replacing the Bose headphones because they did not feel that secure while in, and the highs were a bit muffled.
The Shure SE110 fits in the ear very secure and does an excellent job of cutting out the ambient noises in whatever atmosphere you're in. I use the Shure headphones while working out and they do not fall out while doing any cardio or strength training. The sound quality is superb and very rich for in ear headphones. They come with a carrying case, 3 different size grey rubber inserts, and 3 black foam inserts. This ensures that you will find a size that fits your ear correctly and comfortably. The better they fit in your ear, the better the audio quality is. For example, if you use an insert that is too small for your ear; the bass is very weak. I currently use the black, foam style inserts because they do the best at dampening noises from the environment your in. It is almost like putting an ear plug in your ear, that is hollowed out with music being delivered straight into your ear canal. I am a musician who is very picky when it comes to audio quality. These pass the test, I highly recommend them.

Great sounding, REALLY comfortable,

I've been using these headphones for about 2 months now and I am really happy with them. They sound great - (I listen to mostly Pop/Rock). I use the foam ear pieces which are really comfortable and block out most of the ambient noise. The headphones come with high quality audio cables which are thick enough to not get tangle when you throw your mp3 player in your bag. I wish the extension cable that came with it is a bit shorter so I don't have an extra foot of cable to deal with. The headphone cable is too short to use without the extension. The carrying case is a nice touch, but I never use it.

What a great set of headphones, honestly.
I've been through many different in-ear headphones lately, starting with the ipod headphones, then the in-ear apple headphones, various sony models and a pricey etymotic set and I have to say that these are the best pair for the price that I've paid. I listen to a wide array of music, from folky Bob Dylan, to punk and hardcore and much "classical" music and these performed very well in all of the above categories. These are also phenomenal for most pop must of today and plenty of hip hop and rap. The bass may not be as deep as others may like, but you definitely get what you pay for - in this case, deep bass with a great audio range. Pros: These headphones carry a great mid-range section and allowed me to pick up nuances in songs that I have heard time and time over again. The high range is better than I anticipated after having read some reviews, and it performed much better than ALL of the previously stated headphones. The bass was substantial for me, but it really depends on what you prefer. It was not too deep, nor was it too shallow. You can pick these headphones up well below list price on amazon and they are much better headphones than the new apple in-ear headphones. Head over to engadget, cnet or gizmodo to read about how these headphones size-up against other, more expensive and comparably priced headphones The noise isolation on this set is also phenomenal. They come packed with 3 sets of foam and 3 silicone sleeve headphone covers. The foam covers are fantastic, they block out all unwanted outside noise and let you be alone with your music, despite noisy surroundings. Cons: The cord for the headphones is somewhat short, but it does come with an extension wire which you will almost always have to use in case you like to have your mp3 player in your pocket. The price ($99.99) is justified for a great pro/high quality entry level set of headphones. They are fantastic and you will notice a new world of sounds when you switch to these from a low quality iPod headset. If you have any concerns or questions, please respond and I will get back to you as soon as possible

Great Sound, horrible durability.,

First let me say that I love the sound and fit of the Shure headphones. However I have now had two pairs the E2c and SE110, and with both the cord frayed and died within a year.
With the SE110 the base cord went out in three months, and within 9 months the cord frayed at the bend before the headphones. Since this is my second pair that went bad, I am going to go with a different brand in the future.

I'm not much of a reviewer. That's mostly because I'm too lazy.
So here it is in a nutshell: I'm really very happy with these headphones. They sound great, have obviously been made very sturdy and strong, and fit well in my ear (they come with lots of different earplug options). They also come with a small carry case and a tool thingy that I THINK is used to clean out ear gunk but I'm not sure since I didn't read the manual (who needs a manual for earphones anyways). In my opinion they are competitively priced , especially for their quality of sound reproduction and make. My only complaint (which is a small one at best) is that they look quite ugly in my ears. But alas, I deal with it since I love good bass and treble. 4 1/2 stars (if Amazon let me do half stars).

There is such a significant difference between the stock ipod earbuds and the Shure SE110: clean crisp highs, warm, accurate mids, and tight bass. I tried several other earbuds, even more expensive sets, however, for the money you can't beat 'em!

These headphones are great for the cost (again, I spent $75 on Amazon.com) and I'm happy with the decision. They produce a cleaner, crisper sound than the V-Moda Vibes and Skull Candy isn't even in the same league.
The people who complained about a "tinny" sound or no bass, did NOT have them in correctly. I can't emphasize the importance of proper insertion enough. It's a bit difficult at first to properly insert them, but if you follow the included diagram, and get a good seal (included foam tips are the best), It quickly becomes second nature getting them in and out after the first few tries. the sound is tough to beat in this price range. I can't turn the volume more than 3/4 the way up on my iphone because the sound is too loud. The highs are good, and the bass (especially with the volume higher) is more than good enough for rock, hip-hop, electronic, etc; as well as the classics. As far as comfort, they're impressive; especially when considering that these are larger than some of the competitors (Jays, V-Moda, Skull Candy, ER, etc). I've fallen asleep with them still in (and i don't do that easily) and I can run with them or bike with them. The important thing (again) is proper insertion, AND put the cord over your ear (they're designed to be used this way). It's easy to get used to, it's not hard to do, and you CAN use them without doing this, but they fall out easier. They are certainly durable. The hard plastic and thicker cord make it tough to tangle and tough to break. mine have taken some abuse and survived. The bottom line is that these are a good quality headphone for someone looking for an upgrade over their stock packaged headphones. If you're an audiophile looking for perfect sound at a lower price, these are probably not for you, the SE 210s from Shure (about $70 more from amazon) are probably a better bet as are the 2nd step up, Etymonic Research pair. I'm quite happy with the performance at the price, and i think most people will be if they follow the instructions and use them properly.

I've been researching headphones to use in the gym for a while now and based on what I read and what I could afford, I picked these.
i've only spent a weekend with them so far and am happy. The sound is good and the buds don't keep dropping while you are on the treadmill or lifting weights. I took a ride in the subway today and was listening to less than half the volume on the ipod earplugs. Besides didn't have people giving me the nasty stares. The ear plugs do take some getting used to as they are inserted into the ear canal but once you get over it; it smooth sailing from there. Quality of the product is good and a good set of spare buds are provided in case the default ones don't fit.

I'm very pleased with these headphones. In my research I came across some comments about poor bass response. What I learned is that the drivers in these headphones are the same technology Shure uses in their high end models. They require a "break-in" time before they open up to their full potential. It's takes only a few hours of listening, or, in my case, I just turned on the music and let them sit for an afternoon. [Shure talks about this on their website] I was initially disappointed when I first plugged them in, too. BUT...8 hours later, they're stinking fabulous! [I had the same experience with a high-end set of studio headphones.] I listen to Bach, 60's rock and acoustic guitar music and am very pleased.
