Featuring a Dynamic MicroDriver, the new SE215 Limited Edition earphones deliver detailed sound with enhanced bass, newly tuned for extended low frequency response (21Hz - 17.5kHz versus 22Hz - 17.5kHz). The SE215LTD comes with a slightly shorter (46" versus 64") detachable cable with formable wire enables easy replacement and a secure, comfortable fit onstage or on-the-go. The SE215LTD cable is a dark gray rather than the original black cable. Sound Isolating sleeves in multiple sizes provide up to 37 dB of isolation and a customized fit. Normally available in Translucent Black or Clear; Limited Edition Translucent Blue available for a limited time.

Features

Sound Isolating Design

Comfortable sound isolating sleeves block up to 37 dB of ambient noise. Sound isolation technology prevents outside noise from interfering with your listening experience, whether on-stage or on-the-go. Shure Sound Isolating Earphones require a proper fit to achieve the best sound.

Unmatched Personalization and Comfort

Ergonomic, Professional Design
  • Lightweight, low-profile shape with optimized nozzle angle is designed to rest comfortably in the ear
  • Over-the-ear configuration keeps cables out of the way

Detachable Cable with Wireform Fit

  • Durable Kevlar® reinforced cable allows easy replacement or customization
  • Formable wire ensures secure placement, and over-the-ear configuration keeps cables out of the way
  • Gold plated MMCX Connector has a lock-snap mechanism allowing 360-degree rotation for comfortable fit

Fit Kit Includes

  • Sound Isolating Sleeves

The role of the included sound isolating sleeves is twofold: blocking ambient noise and ensuring a comfortable customized fit. Because every ear is different, the Fit Kit includes three sizes (S, M, L) of the flex and black foam sleeves. Experiment with the size and style that creates the best fit for you. A good seal is key to optimizing sound isolation and bass response as well as maximizing comfort during extended wear.

  • Carrying Case

A soft-zip, compact carrying case is included to provide a convenient, tangle-free solution to store and travel with your earphones.

Sound is great for my purposes.

The only problem I have if that, is the cable is a bit shorter than I like but this is a very minor problem.
Robert Lee
All in all these are great, you can't buy a better pair of headphones for this kind of money.

Please note that the sound signature of the SE215-LTD differs from the SE215-CL and SE215-K models. Shure has retuned the low-end response for the SE215-LTD model. You can check Shure's product page for more information.

I definitely chose to purchase the SE215-LTD over the -CL and -K models for that reason alone. Unfortunately, I can't compare the LTD to the original CL/K models but I will say that I am very happy with the LTD bass response. I listen to a lot of hip hop and R&B, and bass response is important for those genres. However, I don't want the bass to be loose or boomy; I'm looking for tightness, clarity and depth.

For example, on Drake's "Shot for Me" from the "Take Care" album, you can feel the bass rumble at the very beginning of the track, notes that some single armature IEMs at this price point might have trouble reproducing.

Also, I think the shorter cord length (relative to -Cl and -K models) is perfect for mobile applications, although home or laptop users might find it a little short.

Right now I only have about 10 hours on these IEM, and I feel as though the mids and highs are a little subdued compared to my Logitech Ultimate Ears 600vi Noise-Isolating Headset - Dark Silver and my Yamaha HPH-200BL Headphone (which both have a lot more hours on them) but I'll update this review if my opinion changes.

There's a small discussion online regarding the SE215-LTD at head-fi.org. Search for SE215 Limited.

Many moons ago, early in my head-fi journey, I had the SE215 and thought pretty highly of it. Very good all-around sound, nice form factor, under $100, and removable cables. What wasn't to like?! Those guys served me very well for yardwork and gym-time for a few months before I moved onto something else. Now I'm back with the 215 LTDs and I think they're to be a staple in my lineup.

These guys look great. The aquamarine color is gorgeous. The color reminds me of some nice CIEMs I've seen before so that's cool. The size/shape of the housing fits well inside my ear and the proprietary cable pin is also pretty low-profile. Cable is nice and sturdy without excessive microphonics.

Sound is great for my purposes. These are my work-in-the-yard, take-to-the-gym, ride-the-bus, walk-the-dog IEMs which are usually paired with my cell phone or Sansa Clip. They have a very fun signature that still performs well with regards to separation, soundstage, and detail retrieval. Are they an end-all for treble extension and texture? No. But their price tag doesn't suggest it either. Hard rock, hip hop, and jazz all fair very well with the LTDs. Surprisingly they also handle classical well - ya know, on the rare occasion I need to hear some Holst while using the weedwhacker... The only genres I've tried that don't work so well are any that require a great deal of speed or excessive separation i.e. speed metal and the like. The extra depth in the low end is great and makes these very fun with most popular genres but it can be slow and congested when you need more separation in the mid to lower end. Luckily for me, there isn't much in my gym playlist like that.

Speaking of the bass, I'll drop a note or two about it. Some have said that the bass on the LTDs is excessive, boomy, or muddled.

I decided to purchase a set of Shure SE215 earphones after my faithful e4c's died. I settled on the limited addition because after some limited research, there isn't a whole lot written on the LTD on the web, the consensus seemed to be that the LTD's are a little bit bass heavy, but that it's balanced out by a little bit warmer/smoother sound than the normal 215. I can already tell I'm going to miss the sound of the e4c, which to my ear was very neutral and flat and required (in fact was most enjoyable with) no EQ adjustments, but for 1/3 of the cost these are great units.

Pros:
The replaceable cables which also seem to be significantly more robust than those on the e4c's.
The cable noise is considerably reduced from the e4c's.
Same great fit that I expect from Shure ear pieces, I don't care much for the foam inserts as they seem a bit more of a hassle, but the silicon buds insert easily, fit snugly but not too tight, and seal well.
The cable has a formable guide that goes over the ear that was missing on earlier Shure products which seems to help these earphones not move around quite so much.
Great sound resolution for a $99 set.
Great, almost too much, sound isolation.
Drums and percussion sound excellent. Nice tight, present sound.

Cons:
A little clunkier feeling than the e4c.
A little too much bass, not a big deal, but for my ears these units definitely benefit from a little EQ.
Not exceptionally 'neutral'.
Sound resolution definitely can't compete with more expensive models.

I'm hoping that the frequency response smoothes out a little bit over the burn in, I'll update this review when I know more about that.
