Shure SM93 Lavalier Microphone

We are using this for a video surveillance application and we are amazed by the sensitivity in picking up conversations from far away. It turns out that a pro lavelier mic is perfect for this purpose because it's tiny and omnidirectional. Just remember you'll need a phantom power supply. Although "phantom" power supply sounds mysterious it's nothing more than a power supply that has an XLR input and output. With this setup you can have a long XLR mic cable without introducing line noise (if you use a regular mic with a phono/RCA cable the line would pick up a lot of noise at longer distances). The output of the phantom power supply can be converted from XLR to phono/RCA with a short converter cable. Get this mic if you need to pick up tip-toes and whispering in the distance.

Pure and simple, these are wonderful little microphones.

I do have a problem with the little clip that comes with them - that you clip onto the person speaking. These little clips break easily. Because of that, I recommend that you pick up the after market B&H Photo Video clip for the SM93 as it is built tough!

I have never had a problem with these microphones, and I have used them for a good number of years.

Mic sounds great. I use them for a video show called Talking Scuba. I highly recommend these mics for any video production.

Just bought this for presentation recordings and hooked it up via audio mixer via USB to Laptop, sound is crisp after a few minutes of practice placing it on a jacket/shirt and really helps isolate your voice during instructional scenes. Phantom powered (total novice but read up and worked it out) so needs a mixer/power source for it to work. Great build qulaity, preamp is heavy and sturdy (clippable in back pocket)

I use this mic with my Panasonic AG-HMC 80 Camcorder and it works great due to the fact that my camcorder can supply phantom power which eliminate the need for batteries. So far no problem yet.
