I had previously had a Shurflo Extreme(tm) Series Smart Sensor 5.7 pump installed in my RV. Great pump, giving city water like pressure regardless of how much the water tap was open. Very quiet. Unfortunately, apparently, the pressure sensor started to fail. Called Shurflo and was told that this pump had no rebuild kit available, the pump was discontinuted, and the 4048 was the current, comparable replacement. Ordered one and installed. Nothing like the pump it replaced. It has good pressure when a water valve is full open, but just crack the tap a little and you can hear the pump short cycling on and off, and see the effect in the tap pressure. Literature that came with the pump said an accumulator tank was not necessary but not so sure. Would not recommend this pump to others.

I purchased this to replace the OEM #2088 on our Newmar. The 2088 was rated at 2.9 gal/min, the 4088 at 5gal/min. The Pump heads appear very similar, the motor on the the new is considerably larger occupying a good 4in more in length. Rubber mount is very flexible. This pump is noisier than the OEM (bigger motor, more volume Duh) but not too objectionable. The OEM mounting arrangement requires an elbow coming out of the pump. I wasted a couple hours chasing down the proper fittings. Found them at West Marine. I may attempt to relocate to remove the elbow and possibly reduce the hammer.

As others have indicated, I had the 5.7 (I think it was the 5900 but that is 2 years ago) in my new RV. When it failed at 12 months, I called all over the US looking for the same pump. All the places that showed it in stock told me they were defective returns waiting to be returned to Shurflo. Everyone, including Shurflo who sent me a free replacement, said it was the direct replacement. I purchased one locally because I needed it and kept the replacement as a spare. The first one lasted 18 months and i just replaced it today. I was looking for something as good as the 5.7 but discovered that the 4048 is still their top of the line. So do I buy another one so I have one on hand when this one fails or hope they come out with something similar to the 5.7 before this one fails?? When I say as good as the 5.7 which failed at 12 months compared to the 4048 which failed in 18 months, I am referring to the pressure and water flow at the faucet or shower head, which was great. Come on Shurflo, everyone loved the 5.7...make it or one like it work!!!!

PS.... both had strainers and quick connect fittings in the box. You may need two small hose clamps if you have to cut off the previous connections.

I replaced my original non-bypass 2008 pump with this one. I was attracted to the idea of a pump with a built in bypass that would eliminate cycling. The 4048 Revolution does eliminate cycling and delivers good, non-surging flow down to very low volumes. It is also capable of delivering a very high volume flow for a wide open faucet or shower.

The catch is that you may need to adjust the bypass and / or pressure shutoff switch. I gave the pump only 3 stars because of the need to make these adjustments and because the literature provided with the pump doesn't give adequate information on how to make the adjustments. I made a call to Shurflo and with their help was able to make the adjustments in about five minutes. Assuming you have easy access to the front of the pump it isn't overly difficult.

Finding a really good water pump for an RV is difficult. The electronic models aren't instant on like most people expect. The non-bypass pumps are noisy and deliver a surging water flow if they are running wide open. The bypass pumps like the 4048 work well but require fine tuning for your specific installation to perform properly. Choose your poison!

If I could have given this pump no stars I would have. This is Shurflo's replacement for a different pump that was excellent. I wouldn't give you 2 cents for this one. It is constant speed so it pounds terribly unless all the water sources in the rv are on, so you either run out of water in no time or put up with the pounding. And now I find I can't return it since we have installed it and they won't accept it back. $200 down the drain. Big disappointment and will have to be cautious with what I order from Amazon from now on if there is a chance I'll have to return it.

Needed to replace a Shurflo pump in my 2001 Monaco Dynasty. Found this to be an exact bolt in replacement for the original Shurflo and this pump also came with a nice in-strainer unit that you put in front of the inlet line to pre-filter your water before it gets to the pump. Very nice, and well built pump. Also, has an internal bypass capability which helps reduce pump cycling

I ordered this as a replacement because they don't make rebuild kits. It is a great pump for large rv's, and half the price of buying it from the rv store.
