I use this book for my 7th grade Language Arts class. It's difficult to find a well-written text for grammar and writing for this level. Too often texts are too light on grammar or writing. The Shurley method gives students the grammatical foundation to become effective writers. The change in my students' abilities since employing this text has been downright dramatic.
My only complaint is the routine is quite repetitive. However (as with all instructional materials), a skilled teacher will know what to add and subtract to bring the content to life.

Shurley English is the best out there. Don't try jumping around with different methods, just stick with Shurley and you will get a solid foundation.
