wonderful collection of their most important songs. saw them play just once in new york city. was blown away by their raw power. even though they could not play their instruments the way trained musicians could play, they loved playing those instruments. i could tell by their intensity, and stage presents. they along with DNA, and SUICIDE, were my favorite new york city bands of the time. songs like THE CLOSET, RED ALERT, and BURNING RUBBER, til this day, still remain close to my musical soul. as powerful as a pointed stick to the eye. a safety pin thru a nipple. as painful as a cigarette to your testical. these images will put into context the true power of this music. now you can understand how wonderful it was to have experienced this music, and the clubs that presented their music.

It's safe to say that most people have heard of Lydia Lunch, and probably know that she is a long-serving cult figure in the New York art-punk underground. If that's all you know, this CD will teach why--and then some. If you're a fan, you either have already ordered this or are (hopefully for you) about to do so. In Lydia's own words, `the driving vision behind Teenage Jesus was to castrate the tradition of melody and composition, and simply vent in the most primal way possible the horrible din of my own torture.' Ahem. In other words, early NYC noise-punk with Lydia wailing over, under, and through the maelstrom. TJaTJ were the progenitors of everything from Massacre to Sonic Youth to Butthole Surfers to Merzbow and Melt Banana, and this CD compiles 29 tracks, including 7 from the Beirut Slump sessions. It's a history lesson in discordant noise as entertainment, if nothing else.
