In an age where multiple messages are constantly evolving, Shut Up and Say Something is a must read for anyone who wants to cut through the clutter, optimize communication skills and have their voice heard above the rest.

--Philadelphia Ad Club

Fabulous Book packed with great info!!!
--Brave Elk

A hands-on approach to help professionals overcome daily communications challenges to quickly influence listeners and decision makers.
--Pharma Voice

"Karen Friedman has a great gift for explaining how businesspeople need to think, talk, plan and react."
--Wall Street Journal columnist Jeffrrey Zaslow

Business self-help books usually make my eyes glaze over by the middle of the first chapter, but I just can't put Karen's book down!

--The Compleat Anglophile

"Karen Friedman hits the nail on the head in her newly-released book, Shut Up and Say Something. Right from the beginning with chapter one, 'Zip It' to chapters 'Talk to your Grandmother' and 'Reality Check,' Friedman presents attention-grabbers. . . . Shut Up and Say Something is outlined with easy to read bullet points and relevant anecdotes from Friedman's years in the industry from working as a news anchor and reporter to her experience in the communications coaching business. She presents key points when dealing with the media and proves their importance through some cringe worthy real-life anecdotes. She clearly demonstrates just how one sound bite or off-the-cuff remark can be linked to you and/or your organization forever."

"A practical, easy to use reference guide for business communications. . . . Clearly Karen understands business communication well enough to explain it simply."

There are no two ways about it. In order to succeed in business -- any kind of business -- you need to be able to communicate your thoughts and ideas clearly, succinctly, and interestingly if you hope to be able to influence and persuade others. Some people are natural-born communicators. For the rest of us, we need to be taught the principles and read lots of examples of good and bad ways to express ourselves. Karen is a wonderful teacher. She has helped thousands of clients with her workshops and in her consulting practice. Now she has captured a good portion of all of this valuable material in her book. Whether you have to communicate to just a few co-workers, your boss, those who work for you, your clients/customers, shareholders, neighbors, or elected officials, you will be well served to read Karen's book.

As a coach myself, I am struck by Karen's powerful points, delivered in punchy, digestible chunks. She includes wonderful, personal stories and excellent coaching points that are invaluable to anyone who wants to be a compelling speaker. Frankly, reading Karen's book is like having her right there, working with you! It's a must-read!

Karen Friedman's book, Shut Up and Say Something is terrific. It's crammed with great ideas. I started reading it in the Ft. Lauderdale airport and finished it before the flight touched down in Tucson. I was able to apply several of her concepts to a grant I'm writing. I also receive communication tips from her via video and am positive that they will improve my oral presentations and my grants as well.

I had the privilege of hearing Karen speak at the HBA Leadership Conference in 2010 and acquired a copy of this book at the event. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their professional image, communication skills, or media savvy. I thought this was such an important book I shared it with co-workers. I have been able to directly apply some of Karen's expert advice to my job with great results.

I just received my copy of Shut Up and Say Something. I am on Chapter 2, and I already LOVE it! I didn't realize just how much it could help me right now in my life!

This year I was chosen as facilitator for our school's accreditation process. I have always been a nervous public speaker, anywhere other than in my classroom. As department chair, I have to speak annually at our academic awards night on behalf of our department, and although I have gotten good feedback, I have felt tied to my script start to finish, and have always dreaded going through the process. Now, as facilitator, I must speak occasionally in front of the faculty, and will eventually speak with the evaluating visiting team.

In just one chapter, I already see tools and approaches that will help me. I am definitely someone who can say much more than I need (and ought) to, especially when I am nervous. I can put someone who has had five cups of coffee to sleep with my long-winded explanations. So I am looking forward to reading (and rereading) your book to help me gain confidence and become a more succinct, directed and interesting speaker.

Thank you so much for this wonderful resource!

Karen Friedman is the best in the field. As an educator, I find this book to be an effective text for anyone who communicates with anyone. In the corporate world or academia the experiences and advice provide the reader with a direct path to success in being interviewed, interrogated or negotiating. What an appropriate title! Wish I had the benefit of Karen's wisdom in some previous situations in teaching, investigating and working with the media.

I had the pleasure of hearing Karen speak about "New Beginnings" at a Commencement Address for Penn State University graduates many years ago. I still remember it. Why? I remember it because she did exactly what she instructs in her book. She told a compelling story and she made the audience feel something. Over and over again in her book, she teaches readers how to communicate so that they will be heard and better yet, remembered. She does it in such an authentic way that you almost want to re-script all your recent presentations and call a "do-over." Furthermore, the book is enjoyable to read with lots of antidotes and real world examples that include her clients, friends and family.
