1.0 out of 5 stars Shut up...isn't that talk radio's motto?
Funny, but the place I most often hear "Shut up!" being said is on the occasions when I listen to guys like Bill O'Reilly, Mark Levin, and other nutcases on right wing talk radio. They don't believe in civil discourse or in having alternate points of view. Too bad for America.

Incidentally, If the right wing is so sure they are right, why are they so afraid...

Brad O'Leary has presented a timely warning about the current threat to end free speech in this great nation. This book is filled with information from historical to current perspectives on how the freedom of speech is under attack. The left-wingers are threatened by freedom of speech, especially by conservative talk radio shows, which expose many left-wingers' ideologies and hypocrisies that are detrimental to this great nation. Thus the left-wingers are currently campaigning for the reinstitution of the Fairness Doctrine: an attempt to control conservative voices. This is an excellent book to get ourselves educated about the current threat by the left to undermine the freedom of speech. However, I think this book lacks the discussions on the methods of how private citizens can counter this threat against free speech.

Brad O'Leary gives us the exact plans of Barack Obama and the liberal Democrats in Congress who want to silence any dissent. In the process they stifle all free speech. Regardless of your political views this should shock you. Laws don't go away after democrats are no longer in power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inciteful and timely--MUST READ, May 1, 2009
This review is from: Shut Up, America!: The End of Free Speech (Hardcover)
I just got done reading this and WOW. If you care about your First Amendment rights at all, I recommend reading this book. Tons of great stuff in here about how the Obama administration and Dems in Congress are gunning for our rights and talk radio. It ain't just the Fairness Doctrine we have to fear--they're moving on all fronts. I hope enough people read this book so they know what's going on. Enough is enough!

Short, sweet and to the point. The author lays out the liberal polititians plans to implement the Fairness Doctrine in it's differnet names and guises. And also explains some of the dangers should it actually be implemented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Documents and defines free speech's nature, July 7, 2009
This review is from: Shut Up, America!: The End of Free Speech (Hardcover)
SHUT UP, AMERICA! THE END OF FREE SPEECH exposes the movement that would take all the power out of the First Amendment, documenting how censorship is evolving and how the free ideas fostered by President Reagan is being challenged by left-wing politicians. Right-wingers and any concerned about the nature and threats to free speech will want to consider the message here, which both documents and defines free speech's nature.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Voice of Dissent Shall Not be Silenced, October 13, 2009
This review is from: Shut Up, America!: The End of Free Speech (Hardcover)
Brad O'Leary raises some relevent concerns about the current administration's covert plans to gag any members of society who dare to be the voice of dissent. The First Amendment mustn't die; the free exchange of ideas and ideologies is one of our fundamental rights as Americans.

The "Fairness Doctrine" is simply an awkward attempt to subvert dissention; but without dissention, how would our society move forward? Whether you're a consevative, a liberal, or more of a centrist, the very concept of this form of censorship should stir your passion to resist it.

Strangely enough, I've personally been subjected to censorship on Twitter's forum for business people, known as "Exectweets". Some of my honest observations about the mess going on in corporate America as well as Washington, DC, have been screened. I'm not saying anything radical, but it's still being blocked by the "Exectweet Police". I don't even bother with them anymore. Folks, I'm a centrist; I'm not swaying far to the right, but apparently, the far-reaching influence out of Washington, DC is getting carried away with the "Fairness Doctrine" in a way that's anything but "fair".

Let's not allow the voice of dissent be silenced; our civil liberties need to be protected and our government needs to stop meddling in our lives. Where's Ronald Reagan when you need him?

Incidentally, If the right wing is so sure they are right, why are they so afraid of the Fairness Doctrine? Surely, the wisdumb of their positions will just shine right through beside the nutty, unpatriotic ideas of liberals??? Or maybe not?

2.0 out of 5 stars Some merit in the book, April 17, 2009
This review is from: Shut Up, America!: The End of Free Speech (Hardcover)
Mr. O'Leary believes that if the government does not endorse his religion then he is being persecuted. While interviewed on an Ohio radio show about President Obama giving a speech free of religious imagery, Mr. O'Leary took it as a personal affront to his religious freedom. The host clearly explained that it doesn't help America to have the President of the US behind Christian symbols. It doesn't sell America as a nation not on a religious or Christian crusade. But that said, I do share some of the author's beliefs that the government should not intrude and interfere in talk radio. If you own a conservative radio station, please allow your station to be an only conservative forum if you so wish. But, a handful of media companies such as Clear Channel should not control the airwaves of America. Unfortunately that is the case. Media companies afraid of stirring the apple cart refuse (as is their right) to put on more liberal hosts knowing that liberal listeners are more willing and tolerant to listen to conservative hosts then conservative listeners listenting to liberal hosts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Partisan pseudo journalism, April 21, 2009
This review is from: Shut Up, America!: The End of Free Speech (Hardcover)
I thought this book would be about free speech. The author seems to be a right-wing partisan and it was hard for me to take him seriously. If you like reading such things just to fire up your anger, maybe this is a good book for you. I did not find much insight or novel-thought in his assertions.

The author was on the Thom Hartmann show recently saying Corporations should have the same rights as people.
