Shut Up, Give Up, Grow Up. . Your Choice!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shut Up (Audio CD)
I was expecting the daughter of Ozzy Osbourne to have a little more talent than this! The album material is average and so is her singing in a world of pop stars like Britny Spears Kelly stands about a snowballs chance in Hell. I think that she should have taken this big chance more seriously. I hope that her next album (if it ever happens) is alot better.

Terrible Music from a Clueless Girl,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shut Up (Audio CD)
poor kelly. does she know how bad she sounds? She must be surrounded by YES people all day that kiss her butt and make her think shes a rockstar. The music is terrible, the lyrics are something a 4th grader would write on the back of a notebook, and her voice could make you vomit. She should tattoo a barcode on her forehead because she is a product for sale, not an artist or musician. she is a scheme by her mother to exploit and milk the osbourne fame found with their TV series. kelly - go away. your music sucks.

Follow your own advice, Kelly, and SHUT UP,

Kelly Osbourne - you might have heard of her. Daughter of the 'Prince of [explicit] Darkness™', a sort of red and black wonky bowl thing going on hairwise, World championship swearer, fabulous dresser and now, like, rock star. Inspiration to all awkward, misunderstood, painting-bedroom-black teens everywhere, who don't want to relate to Christina's arse or mini-Morrisette Avril Lavigne's brat angst, 'Shut Up' has more in common with Hole and Blondie and shows up something rotten in the Prince William-hears-Blink 182 unpleasantness that is Busted. And as Kelly sings on 'Coolhead' - "I'm not here for your amusement" - you know that she actually means it (man). Think about it, if you'd grown up surrounded by people who thought your dad ate bats, you'd have an attitude too. The title track and current single 'Shut Up' gives a false impression of the rest of the album - fine, snotty and precocious it may be - but a whole album of it would've been hard to stomach, and worse, would be in danger of placing Kelly on the musical evolutionary scale beneath Shampoo. Look beyond that and you get a cracking collection of new wave Buffy-punk-pop: Ace opener 'Disconnected' sounds like Kim Wilde's 'Kids In America' on multi-track fire, inventing stadium garage in the process, the shouty 'Come Dig Me Out' is about being buried alive, which is as near to her dad's 'ouevre' as she gets, and 'On Your Own' is metaltastic Strokes. The lighter-waving moment comes in the form of 'More Than Life Itself', written about her mum - the formidable Sharon - and spectacularly fails to turn into a cheesy schmaltzy blub-fest. You want power ballads? Look elsewhere. Even with Top Five smash 'Papa Don't Preach' as - mystifyingly - a 'hidden' track (probably seen as a bit embarrassing ...now) this first, and probably only album, is a neat summation of what makes Ms Osbourne tick. It'll [upset]her sister, give her brother plenty to get stroppy about, but is unlikely to gain her a slot at Daddy's Ozzfest. However, 'Shut Up' is better than you may at first think. If she doesn't take her own advice, Kelly will be the first proper superstar to have gained fame through the monster that is reality TV.

...8-9-10 knockout?,

Well it was a year ago today that Kelly Osbourne released her very first album.I'm not sure on whether it's been a good year or bad year for her though. The Good The Bad "Shut Up" was a good starting album. Its songs are fast and fun to listen to. Even though there almost all about sour relationships. And the lyrics to some are a little dry. For Example From Disconnected: My only real complaint about the album itself its that they tagged "papa don't preach"(a song I think is just okay) on the end of "More than life itself"(a song I really do like). They should have put them on separate tracks! Lastly I want to add that I think that she is an all right singer. But, I don't think that she deserves all the attention. I mean when you think about it...(alright you caught me I really hate her guts)...she isn't doing anything new!

I am not going to lie. When I first heard that Kelly Osbourne was releasing an album, I was a little skeptical. It seemed like one day, she decided to record a CD and a few months later it was in stores. It just seems a bit rushed to me. However, I throughly enjoyed her cover of "Papa Don't Preach" and I thought the song "Shut Up" was pretty good, so I thought I would give her CD a try. I am really glad I did. From the first song, "Disconnected", the CD is non stop fun. The sound is very punk rock, very retro. I read she was going for a Go-Go's/Iggy Pop/Hole type sound, and I think that shows here. The standout tracks for me are "Coolhead", "Too Much of You", and "On Your Own." The only reason the album did not get 5 stars was because of the final song "More Than Life Itself", the only ballad on the album. It's not a horrible song, but it does show Kelly's limited vocal range when it comes to ballads. She sounds great on the fast, upbeat tracks, which is every other track on the album. I was impressed that Kelly co-wrote all of the songs. Musical talent definitely runs in the Osbourne family. I cannot wait to see what Kelly has planned next.

Why do sites like this one want more for "Shut Up" then "Changes." Changes is a re-release of shut up and has more for less!!! I just don't get it? Anyway did anyone else see her on celebrities uncensored 7 she looked so dazed and angry. How many times does this girl have to perform live on T.V. 7 8 9 times before people consider her a serious artist!.

it's a sad day in the world of music,

when Kelly Osbourne gets to record an entire album and be constantly promoted on MTV reguardless of whether the music is actually GOOD or not. I listened to her disc with an open mind, and every song left me with a sick feeling in my stomach. Her voice is rather weak, her songs are boring and generic, her lyrics are childish and silly sounding, and her image is utterly tragic. You don't even need to take my advice on whether to buy this album... just look at how poorly it is selling even though MTV is cramming it down everyones throats.

I recently read that it takes the average signed rock band TEN YEARS to get a record deal.So right off it's easy to hate Kelly, since she got a record deal within a year of singing her first note purely through nepotism. But just because she won the life lottery, doesn't mean that what she does with that lottery ticket will automatically be trash. Quite the opposite. The songs (that she helped write) are solid, the backing band (notably the lead guitarist) are first-rate. It's a very good album. I'm finding it hard to believe even as I listen to it. But I can't deny its quality. Chick's got talent AND attitude, the vital combination when it comes to making good rock and roll, and she's done it here.

I bet you wont like this album at the first listen, but if you listen to it several times it would definately grow on you.
Best Songs on there are definately "Come Dig Me Out", "Coolhead", "Shut Up", and "More THan Life Itself", the other tracks are all good too though. My Advice is if you liked "Papa Dont Preach" get this album right away! |
