Maybe good for consumer lenses but I have the Canon 24-70ii and it was a tight fit. I had to cut the elastic on the inside to make it stretch over the lens. Someday when I have time I'll put proper fitting elastic inside.

I learned about this product while watching Bethany Frankel's TV show. The creator, who is a professional photographer, was featured and I thought if Bethany felt comfortable to have her on there then there must be something to it. I'm a prof photographer in my own mind and made my husband get me all the gear. I figure a few great pics is worth more than a ton of eyes closed, heads turned etc. and this product has really helped me step-up my game. My 2-yr old loves this dog and it's one she can really relate to (we have 3)!! It's really great when her little friends are over and I can get 2/3 toddler's eyes all looking at me at the same time...which I had pretty much written off!!! Not sure why the previous reviewer claims it doesn't fit on the larger lenses, it fits mine just fine. I usually don't review items but this product has really helped me and I felt the previous reviewer was wrong about the limits of the product. Hope this helps!!

This little Giraffe, accomplishes the job of having the child's eyes on the camera! It's a little tough to put on the lens at times, and sometimes gets in way of the flash. Other than that, it's great!

This 'dino' has a cute color and is very soft to the touch. I'm glad I got this item, it's already already bringing out smiles of my photo subjects - children and adults. It fits snuggly on my Nikkor 17-55mm, but fits (wonder how long that elastic will hold). Creates a shadow with the camera flash, no shadow created when used with speedlights.

This is a great tool for making my child stare at the camera! The one thing is when I use my short lens it really gets in the way but that's a small price to pay for good pictures!

I have a two year old and a three year old. My three year old will smile nicely for photos, but sometimes he smiles and looks off in directions other than in the direction of the camera. My two year old often sits stone faced and refuses to smile at the camera. She does not like to be photographed. Photographing them together is a big challenge for me.

My results in using the shutter hugger monkey:

1) My three year old son: it worked great. I told him to smile and look at the monkey and he would lock his eyes on the shutter hugger monkey. I got some great pics of him with a sweet smile and his gaze was right at the camera.

2) My two year old daughter; It did keep her gaze on the camera, which is good because sometimes she looks away when I pull the camera out. But, unfortunately, she did not smile or find if funny even when I tried to make the monkey waive at her.

My thoughts on the design of the product:

It seems well made and well sewn. I have a Sony NEX 5N camera and it went over the lense just fine. It has elastic to fit most standard sized lenses. It stayed put well and the head did not flop over when I had it on the lense. It is also lightweight. I like that I can easily move the legs and arms of the monkey to get the kids' attention.

In sum, I would recommend this product. Though I would have loved it if my daughter smiled at the shutter hugger, I do accept that she is such a tough cookie when it comes to refusing to smile for a camera, so I really don't blame the shutter hugger. The most important thing to me is that it does catch my kid's attention and get them to look at the camera.

My daughter really is a child that makes it her mission to put on a sour face or start fussing when she sees a camera.

I gave this rating because I don't know how long it will holdup. I bought 2 as a gift for my nephew who had a new baby. When he went to use the giraffe hungger the elastic broke leaving the item useless.

This was really fun to use with kids. They responded really well to it. The only bad thing is if you are using the pop up flash on your camera, then the head blocks it.
