From the Heart of a Poet...,
By Janice Curran (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Shutters of My Soul (Paperback)
The Shutters Of My Soul A collection of poetry by Lisa A. Dabrowski I was graciously invited to the media reception for the release of "The Shutters of My Soul" by the Author Lisa A. Dabrowski who, in addition to her eloquent and heartfelt poetry expressed in her book, is also a singer, songwriter and producer of "Songwriters Studio" a cable television program she created to discover and promote talented musicians and songwriters. During the reception, which was held in a wonderful Polish-Russian Restaurant "The Polonez", Ms. Dabrowski and guests recited works from "The Shutters Of My Soul" accompanied by music performed by Ms. Dabrowski, as much of her work are also lyrics to her songs however, regardless of how the words are expressed, musically, spoken or read from the pages, the message clearly reflects the experiences and deep feelings of Ms. Dabrowski, touching deeply the readers own soul. The poems in this collection are ponderings, observations and insights based on her extensive research into her family's history in Russia and Poland, heartbreaking and revealing discoveries in her search for her roots. The book reflects a longing to understand the history of the troubled countries in which so many were uprooted, lives in turmoil, families separated. Ms. Dabrowski's book is an absolutely beautiful and intimate work taking the reader on an adventure through her "soul" from the profound heart wrenching piece "Imagine your Homeland" which she read at the opening with Felicia Sawicka, a cornerstone of the Polish community her town in New York, who echoed Ms. Dabrowski's reading, translating it into Polish with such feeling it brought tears to my eyes, to the whimsical "Doughnuts for Dinner" and a favorite of mine, a dreamy, thought provoking poem titled "Purple Animals". Ms. Dabrowski's was bestowed the title of "Ambassador of Goodwill" August 1999 for her work in the New York Community where she lives and helps others in many ways locally and through now this work globally. Lisa A. Dabrowski is truely an amazing woman and her book "The Shutters of My Soul" is a beautiful example of a kind and open spirit, words expressed from the heart of a poet.. touches and helping others to open their hearts and the "shutters" of their own souls... |
