Amazing music and a great voice!,
By Rodrigo Llamozas (the last cubicle at the end of the hall...) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Si-Se (Audio CD)
I love it when I find an amazing group that not a whole lot of people know about. When you feel like you're on to something great. That you'll be saying "yeah, I've known them for years" when they finally hit it big. That's the feeling I get from listening to Si*Sé. Granted, it's not like I discovered them. They have a growing cult following and their record has been out since 2001 (re-released by David Byrne's Luaka Bop in 2003). I didn't even find them myself, a friend told me about the band. But still, it's a great feeling I get from this group. The CD is truly fresh and encapturing. The music is both soothing and exalting at the same time. It's a mixture of jazz, latin, techno, trance, ethnic and a whole other bunch of musical styles all fused together for a fantastic result. The voice of lead singer Carol C is simply hipnotizing. She is one of the best singers out there! The lyrics go from english to spanish and back, but they're all really good (albeit it not too profound). Heck, even the cover is gorgeous! The best track, hands down, is 'Bizcocho amargo'. Other outstanding songs are 'Steppin' out', 'The rain (where do I begin)', the reggae influenced 'Burbuja', 'Dolemite' and 'Slip away'. And if you're from a Latinamerican country you'll be surprised to listen to 'Lullaby'! Get it, you'll thank me for it!

SEXY, classy, trippy, stylish, tasteful, sophisticated, jazzy. WOW !,
By Amazodonte (Caracas, Venezuela) - See all my reviews

To define or categorize these guys would be a pointless excercise. No genre could accurately depict their sound. Instead, they gracefully shift genres leaving their audience dumbfounded wondering: "Was that trip-hop or was it atmospheric drum n' bass what I just heard? Was she singing in Spanish or was that English?"
Well, the answer to ALL of those questions is YES ! The best way I can describe what this masterpiece sounds like is to say that it is a bilingual contemporary flow of relaxing chilled electronic music that mostly sounds like trip-hop, but sometimes sounds like ambient/intelligent drum n' bass with a touch of jazz, complemented by insanely sexy luscious vocals from Carol C (which, by the way, is a singer, songwriter, and a phenomenal DJ). But please don't think this is only electronic music. NO ! This sounds like an orchestra. This is a phenomenal band conformed by 7 talented musicians that play traditional instruments that range from drums to viola. This is no game, these guys are serious and THE BEST at what they do, and the end result is a sexy, chilled, smart, groovy flow of pure ecstasy. It may remind you of an edgy Sade, Esthero, or Emiliana Torrini combined with LTJ Bukem or Thievery Corporation beats along with a nice latin flavor.

Great Stuff,
By Jaded (Bay Area, CA United States) - See all my reviews

This is a great CD. There is a fun cover of Oran Juice Jones' "the Rain" into a mellow latin percussion track. This CD is a mix of rock, funk, latin rhythms, electronica and drum and bass. Carol C, the lead singer is a cool dj and the leader of the group. She has a voice remnant of Sade crossed with the lead singer of Everything but the girl. With a bit of the punky-ness of Blondie. The good tracks: slip away, dolemite, aire and my sol. And the rest are great too, going from upbeat to midtempo and and cool in the same way bossa nova tracks are. Overall a great album, and I look forward to many more. Carol C does lots of gigs in NYC, so if you are there look for her and SiSe. Other artists to check out with a similar mood and style: Zuco 103, Cibelle, and Esthero.
