Amazing music and a great voice!,
By Rodrigo Llamozas (the last cubicle at the end of the hall...) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Si-Se (Audio CD)
I love it when I find an amazing group that not a whole lot of people know about. When you feel like you're on to something great. That you'll be saying "yeah, I've known them for years" when they finally hit it big.That's the feeling I get from listening to Si*Sé. Granted, it's not like I discovered them. They have a growing cult following and their record has been out since 2001 (re-released by David Byrne's Luaka Bop in 2003). I didn't even find them myself, a friend told me about the band. But still, it's a great feeling I get from this group. The CD is truly fresh and encapturing. The music is both soothing and exalting at the same time. It's a mixture of jazz, latin, techno, trance, ethnic and a whole other bunch of musical styles all fused together for a fantastic result. The voice of lead singer Carol C is simply hipnotizing. She is one of the best singers out there! The lyrics go from english to spanish and back, but they're all really good (albeit it not too profound). Heck, even the cover is gorgeous! The best track, hands down, is 'Bizcocho amargo'. Other outstanding songs are 'Steppin' out', 'The rain (where do I begin)', the reggae influenced 'Burbuja', 'Dolemite' and 'Slip away'. And if you're from a Latinamerican country you'll be surprised to listen to 'Lullaby'! Get it, you'll thank me for it!

SEXY, classy, trippy, stylish, tasteful, sophisticated, jazzy. WOW !,

To define or categorize these guys would be a pointless excercise. No genre could accurately depict their sound. Instead, they gracefully shift genres leaving their audience dumbfounded wondering: "Was that trip-hop or was it atmospheric drum n' bass what I just heard? Was she singing in Spanish or was that English?"
Well, the answer to ALL of those questions is YES ! The best way I can describe what this masterpiece sounds like is to say that it is a bilingual contemporary flow of relaxing chilled electronic music that mostly sounds like trip-hop, but sometimes sounds like ambient/intelligent drum n' bass with a touch of jazz, complemented by insanely sexy luscious vocals from Carol C (which, by the way, is a singer, songwriter, and a phenomenal DJ). But please don't think this is only electronic music. NO ! This sounds like an orchestra. This is a phenomenal band conformed by 7 talented musicians that play traditional instruments that range from drums to viola. This is no game, these guys are serious and THE BEST at what they do, and the end result is a sexy, chilled, smart, groovy flow of pure ecstasy. It may remind you of an edgy Sade, Esthero, or Emiliana Torrini combined with LTJ Bukem or Thievery Corporation beats along with a nice latin flavor.

Great Stuff,

This is a great CD. There is a fun cover of Oran Juice Jones' "the Rain" into a mellow latin percussion track. This CD is a mix of rock, funk, latin rhythms, electronica and drum and bass. Carol C, the lead singer is a cool dj and the leader of the group. She has a voice remnant of Sade crossed with the lead singer of Everything but the girl. With a bit of the punky-ness of Blondie.The good tracks: slip away, dolemite, aire and my sol. And the rest are great too, going from upbeat to midtempo and and cool in the same way bossa nova tracks are. Overall a great album, and I look forward to many more. Carol C does lots of gigs in NYC, so if you are there look for her and SiSe. Other artists to check out with a similar mood and style: Zuco 103, Cibelle, and Esthero.

I didn't know what to expect when I bought this disc - it was one recommended by Amazon that I decided to take a chance on after sampling the clips and reading the reviews. It's not the kind of music that I have a lot of in my collection so it took a few listens for me to really appreciate it. It's good music to put on while I'm writing or working on projects at work - it's not overpowering music with heavy beats, etc but some tracks have the power to really uplift my mood and re-energize me.
My favorite tracks are: THE RAIN - Carol C's voice is hauntingly beautiful and I love the beat of the music in this song; MY SOL -gorgeous instrumental; DOLEMITE - catchy, fun track, makes me want to get up dance everytime I hear it & CUANDO. I'd absolutely recommend this disc to my friends who like electronica/house/mixed beats because this group mixed genres of music to create their own sound.

I actually saw this group live when they opened for David Burne a few years ago. Funny enough, I didn't buy the cd the night of the show because they were charging over $30 for it! Now that I found it on Amazon, for a reasonable price, I realized it would have been worth any price. This cd is just dope. The lead singer is every bit as scorching hot as she sounds. I do mean hot! Sade just may be in trouble:-) BUY THIS CD!

Why any one would give this less than 5 stars is a wonder to me. If you like any of the following styles of music you should love this;
electronica, ambient, jazz, r&b, world, house, adult contemporary, latin, "chill", or anything with sexy female vocals. This cd has stood the test of time and ends up back in the player year after year!! Great stuff!!

Very eclectic CD. Carol has a gorgeous voice, and that goes doubly the same for when she sings in Spanish.

Carol C.'s voice sounds eerily similar to Esthero at certain points on this album. The similarities are brief however as Carol's unique vocal signature makes itself known on tracks like The Rain, Bizocho Amargo and Aire.
Other tracks such as Beyond Outside and others are forgettable. Overall jazzy, sexy, smooth and intelligent this album definitely deserves a place in your music collection.
