Great iPOD Car Essential,
By JimBaum (Orange County, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SiK imp for iPod (car charger with line-out audio) (Electronics)
This product is great, especially if you have a high end audio system in your car and your ipod plugs directly into the system. The standard headphone jack on the iPod compresses the audio signal and delivers a sound that does not include the low frequencies. They do this because most headphones do not have a subwoofer or specialized speakers for different frequencies. By using the SIK adapter, you get pure, uncompressed audio that gives you the full range of the music. I have 2 JL W3 10" subwoofers in my car, and the difference between the audio quality and bass response is like light and day.

Works well, but if you are using this with a cassette adapter you'll need other item(s),

This product works really well -- however -- if you plug a cassette adapter into the SiK's headphone jack that comes with this (for car stereos, to take advantage of the Ipod USB port's superior sound) the sound will be completely distorted--far worse than if you didn't have this at all and went direct into the headphone jack. This was the case in both of our vehicles.Per SiK's customer service, you will need an inline volume control (available at Radio Shack, etc.) if you hope to use this for this application. As SiK advertises this product as compatible with cassette adapters out of the box, I have to deduct a star. SiK probably should have included an inline volume control here so you don't have a mass of wires everywhere. SiK said some of the dolby noise reduction options might also work to reduce the distortion--but it didn't in our cars. Had to go with the volume control. Still, the difference between the output coming from the bottom jack vs. the headphone jack is incredible. Highly recommended with the inline volume control.
