5.0 out of 5 stars Train your Siberian the easy way...
Training a Siberian Husky is quite a challenge considering the personality of a Siberian. They are playful, independent, and intelligent. You have to take these traits into consideration and go from there. Treats are about the only motivator I have found to get one moving and I don't mean the ones from the grocery store. Very smart, a Siberian will work if she wants to...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to basic training, but no new information
This book would be great for anyone considering a Siberian Husky, or a new dog owner as it contains basic dog care tips and an introduction to training techniques. I was looking for a book with some special hints for training huskies (as they can be difficult dogs to train) and was disappointed. Although the title is 'How to Train You Siberian Husky' a large amount of...

Training a Siberian Husky is quite a challenge considering the personality of a Siberian. They are playful, independent, and intelligent. You have to take these traits into consideration and go from there. Treats are about the only motivator I have found to get one moving and I don't mean the ones from the grocery store. Very smart, a Siberian will work if she wants to work or provided there is a benefit. If you own one or are thinking of getting one, please read this book. Siberian Huskies for Dummies is also a good choice as well. This book is very short with concise instructions. I think even a mature teenager could manage to train with this book.

Although the title is 'How to Train You Siberian Husky' a large amount of space in the book is dedicated to caring for your dog - not training.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can you train a husky?, November 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Siberian Husky (How to Train) (Hardcover)
Train your Siberian? Most Sibe owners will laugh out loud at this. Sure, they will do simple tricks for treats, but you know they are just putting you on. Husky owners would welcome a book that addressed the unique character of the husky and described methods of using the husky mentality to teach and train. This book is very much in the genre of those dog books which are 75% generic and 25% breed specific. Much of the text is not husky specific, though that in no way makes it not useful in general. The rub in the case of the husky is that as husky owners we want to address those unique husky traits that defy our best efforts at training.

This book may be found lacking for experienced husky owners, while those new to the breed will surely find this useful. You may also find Breed All About It Season 4 - Episode 22: Siberian Husky of interest!

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat, a decieving title, June 27, 2010

This review is from: Siberian Husky (How to Train) (Hardcover)
I bought this book in preparation for when I bring home my first Sibe in a few weeks. A good read with nice pictures that will tug at the heart strings of any Sibe fan.
I was however a little disappointed that compared to the rest of the book, only about a third of the reading material is related to training your Sibe. I was expecting some more advanced methods of training as there are only basic commands listed plus a few 'fun' tricks. I would like the author to elaborate a little further on training technique as sometimes I felt a bit left in the dark even if the commands were only basic, I was wanting more info and support.
I expected this book to be an exclusive training manual because of the title, but two thirds of the book are dedicated to selecting, general behavior and caring for the dog. If I had known this earlier I probably would have gone elsewhere.
Although, a constant thought that would continuously pop up in the back of my mind as I read through... Is this one of those universal manuals where the author simply "inserts breed name here", "inserts breed photos there" and "put some breed specific information here" otherwise is it just the same book for different breeds? I mean I know that training you dog basic commands is a universal teaching practice, but I want to feel as though I am reading a book that is specifically tailored towards my needs as a Siberian Husky enthusiast/future owner. That is after all what I hand my money over for.
All-in-all an easy read that is recommended for the first time Husky owner. But if your looking for an exclusive training manual, pick up a professional training edition geared towards all owners.

I am a first-time Siberian Husky owner and from all of the information I read about them on the internet I thought it would be a good idea to do a little studying about the breed before she got here. This book is short and easy to read with helpful tips on training and obedience. The section on house training is a little short, but really, besides taking them outside every few hours and watching them for cues, what else can be said about the subject? I made a ribbon dog bell and I'm hoping that this will help train her a little more quickly, but so far she has been doing an awesome job about going outside.

It has been a long time since I have trained a puppy of any breed so it was nice to have a refresher course on training in general and the fact that this book was geared towards training Siberian Huskies made it even better. I finished it in under a day and now that we have our new puppy I am finding myself using it as a reference. Overall, I would recommend this book for first-time Husky owners because based on my experiences with my new puppy, everything I read about them being independent, stubborn, and excitable has been 100% accurate from day one. She truly has been a joy to have, but I am finding training to be a little more challenging than it was for my black lab.

This is a fun book to have when you are thinking of getting a HUSKY. Great way to get a idea of what you are getting into and a nice idea on how they will move your life in a great direction.. I recommend it as a first husky book then move the Siberian Huskys for dummies.
