5.0 out of 5 stars This book has everything you need to know!, December 24, 2008
This review is from: The Siberian Husky (Terra Nova Series) (Hardcover)
I borrowed this book from the library and couldn't put it down.

This book starts out with the history and development of the breed. I learned a lot. The book goes into detail about the people who developed the Siberian husky and how they did it.

Next, the book moves into the breed's build, form, and abilities.
It tells how the breed's traits were key parts in their work. The book also gives information on how the show worthy Siberian husky should be built; how the head, eyes, ears, tail, and legs should be. The book gives details each Siberian husky color from the black and white to the red and white.
After the build, the book tells of Siberian huskies temperments and trainability. The author stated key facts that may make or break your ability to own one.

Once you have decided to adopt or purchase a husky, they book moves on into the preparing for your husky stage. It shows how you can tell whether an adult or puppy is best for you or what gender will fit your lifestyle best. The book tells how to locate a good breeder and the documents that you would need to get from them. One also learns what the signs of a good breeder and bad breeder.
Later, it shows what tools and equiptment are invaluable to the breed such as crates, outdoor kennel construction, leashes, and indentification tags.

What I really liked about the book was the feeding section. It really showed what type of diet is good for your dog. And, it revealed the secrets of the large chain dog food brands- what their food is really made out of and what is bad for the dog. If you have an overweight dog, the book shows how and why this happened as well as how to help them lose weight.

There was a large medical section detailing the various things that owners accidentally overlook such as ear, dental, and eye care. One even learns ways to groom their dog and how to find a good vet.

If you are honestly thinking about getting a husky, already have one, or just love the breed, this book has EVERYTHING you need to learn. I wish that I had purchased this book before we brought home our Siberian husky mix. It explained a lot of behaviors that we were puzzled by and is helping us in her traning.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most informative resources on huskies that you'll find in one book, December 29, 2010

This review is from: The Siberian Husky (Terra Nova Series) (Hardcover)
This is one of the best books on the Siberian Husky I have bumped into. I'd call it a must have book for anyone: interested in, thinking about adopting, going to be working with, are parents (especially new parents) of or have family/friends who are parent's of..."the Siberian Husky".

The author starts off giving a nice outline with interesting details on the history of the Siberian Husky, then goes into a well rounded description & the characteristics of the Sibe. Other great topics include the responsabilities of: preparation (before choosing & bringing a husky home), feeding (choosing the right food, different types of foods, supplements & tips), grooming (maintenance & care), training (and behavior), health (care and concerns) and includes a great list of useful resources...and a training dvd.

I haven't watched the training dvd yet, but the book is outstanding and covers the Siberian Husky and isn't all generic information for an average dog (like many books on specific breeds are, especially when it comes to the care and being a new owner). The writer definitely did their homework before putting this book together. Throughout the book are also colorful illustrations of several beautiful huskies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage of all the basics, August 12, 2008
This review is from: The Siberian Husky (Terra Nova Series) (Hardcover)
This book thoroughly covers in detail all the basic information that a current or potential Siberian Husky owner would want to know. And the DVD is priceless: showing exactly how to start training your husky. This book and "Siberian Huskies For Dummies" are must haves for people caring for huskies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too shaby..., July 10, 2008
This review is from: The Siberian Husky (Terra Nova Series) (Hardcover)
The book is hard back and came with a CD-ROM with accompanying material. It has the most detailed breed history I have found, covering the easy to discover roots with the Chuckchis down through the modern breeding programs in America. Most of the rest of the material, while aimed at Sibes, is somewhat generic. I did learn quite a bit though, and even the less specific information is good, so I definitely recommend this book.
