Touring Sicily,

This review is from: Sicily (Eyewitness Travel Guides) (Paperback)
My wife and I will be taking a two-week tour of Sicily in late summer and want to prepare ourselves for the trip. We've had positive experiences with Eyewitness Travel on previous trips abroad so decided to go with a proven winner again. This is an excellent guide for the casual tourist who wants to know the basics about the places being visited. For the serious student of the history and culture of destinations, more scholarly tomes would be more appropriate.

I always love the Eyewitness Travel Guides! They are most informative and, as a photographer, I appreciate the stunning photos they contain!!

We love the Eyewitness Travel books for their clearly illustrated guides, which include detailed maps and diagrams of major sightseeing locales. That kind of guide is invaluable for getting your bearings and making sure you see the highlights of an area, and for this, our first trip to Sicily, the book was exceptionally helpful. Sicily is an incredibly rich island, with both contemporary and ancient importance, and it would be possible to spend months here without experiencing them all. This guide book is a great companion for each excursion. That said, the Eyewitness guides can't be your sole guide to Sicily -- or anywhere else, for that matter. Their greatness is in their visual focus, not their in-depth analysis of history, background, or, most important for those seeking hotel and restaurant help, for opinions about the island. Travelers are better served by the Let's Go! or Lonely Planet guides for that kind of assistance. If you are willing to find that kind of help online, however, the Eyewitness Travel guide to Sicily can be the only book you bring with you on your trip. If you need everyday assistance once you're in Sicily, and don't have Internet access, you'll need a second book to supplement this guide's "show me" information.

We've also used many of these travel guides on the countries we plan to visit. My husband does his own research on a country even though we may be going on a tour. This is also a really good series of travel books.

The book is excellent in its content but arrived in a damaged condition, because the sender didn't package it correctly. |
