Amazon.com Review

Granted, there are plenty of people who love Valentine's Day, who gush over flowery cards and melt at the sight of luscious boxes of chocolates and billowing bouquets of flowers from their sweethearts. And that's fine. Those people should definitely pick up the charming and witty Made for Each Other, by the incomparable William Steig. But for those of you who are less romantic about Valentine's Day, Steig explores love gone awry in Sick of Each Other. Designed as a companion piece to Made for Each Other--sort of--this little square book takes an unflinching look at those couples for whom the thrill is decidedly gone. Looking like a series of New Yorker cartoons (not surprisingly, since this Caldecott Medal-winning artist has drawn for The New Yorker since 1930), each page depicts another humorously miserable pair, accompanied by Steig's dry punch line. A hefty pink-gowned damsel shrieks at a knight in shining armor, wilting lance in hand: "Who asked you to rescue me?" On another page, a couple strides toward one another, almost melding together, his generous nose mashing her generous nose. The caption: "Are we at an impasse?" Warning: this delightful, oft painfully poignant book is not for children at all. It should only be shared in strong relationships that have a twisted sense of humor--or sent to comfort a freshly single friend. --Emilie Coulter

5.0 out of 5 stars For people that hate Valentine's Day, January 16, 2007
This review is from: Sick of Each Other (Hardcover)
This book, written and drawn by the brilliant William Steig, is specifically dedicated to the anti-Valentines. For mushy-lovey-dovey stuff, try Steig's "Made for Each Other." "Sick of Each Other" is a funny, smart collection of drawings that show the things we have all eventually thought about our relationships. My favorite is the drawing of the princess and the knight, wherein the princess is screaming, "Who asked you to rescue me?" If that is the kind of thing you like, then pick up this book.

this was a mistake on my part to buy.
I was not impressed, I thought it would be a whimsical look at how couples have gotten along for so long. Was I wrong. I was then happy to send it back the very day I recieved it.This was on a list of possible Valintines gift. Well if your going to break up, then yes buy it for your partner. Other wise, NOT!!
