The world doesn’t yet belong to My Darkest Days, but they’ve come a long way since singer/guitarist Matt Walst, drummer Doug Oliver and bassist Brendan McMillan started the band, equally influenced by hard rock groups like Nirvana, Tool and Deftones, along with the songwriting approach of the Beatles, in the small town of Norwood, Ontario, where they grew up. Walst got a first-hand ... Read more in Amazon's My Darkest Days Store

Editorial Reviews

Deluxe edition contains four bonus tracks. 2012 sophomore album from the Canadian Alt-Rock band. Sick & Twisted Affair was produced by Joey Moi, who worked with the band on their self-titled debut. The album features incendiary guitar work by John 5 (of Robb Zombie and Marilyn Manson fame).

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Melodic Rock March 30, 2012
Format:Audio CD
If you are a big fan of in your face, meat & potatoes kind of rock and roll, this is a good choice to buy or download. To put it simply, this is not metal or punk, it is straight-ahead rock. As the song titles suggest, this is not an album that deals with complex and intellectual topics. But it is not strictly vapid, empty party rock by any means, either. What we have here is a very good blend of different types of rock.

"Casual Sex" and "Gone" are perhaps the catchiest tracks, but many others are close, such as "Stutter" and "Love Crime." This type of rock and roll can sound really good when executed properly, and this band has got something here. Something about this album just makes you want to keep listening. Perhaps this is because there are no bad songs on the album. It plays through and sounds good while it is on. And while it may not be the catchiest or hardest rocking album out there, it has enough of those elements to be well worth the purchase, and you will find yourself humming along to a few of these tunes after only one or two listens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great follow up to debut album March 30, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I got into My Darkest Days after seeing them open for Hinder in September 2010 and they quickly became one of my favorite bands. I loved their first CD and this new CD does not dissapoint. Stand out tracks for me include Save Yourself, Casual Sex, Stutter (which is a remake of a song I always loved by an artist called Joe, check it out if you haven't heard it), Perfect, and Love Crime. The only songs that I wasn't very fond of were Nature of the Beast and all of the bonus remixes. To me the remix of Casual Sex sounds almost exactly like the album version and the remix of Like Nobody Else is lacking inspiration. I have never been a fan of acoustic versions of songs unless I am seeing them live so I wasn't surpirsed that this version of Every Lie didn't impress me. Overall, this CD is awesome. I just wished the bonus content had included more new tracks like Rolling Stoned, rather than just recycling a bunch of songs into remixes and acoustic versions. Still definitely worth the money and I am pleased that this band was able to release another solid album because it means they will probably be around for awhile.

4.0 out of 5 stars Debut was better May 13, 2013

I really liked the first disk, so I listened to this one with high expectations, feeling disappointed after. After listening a few times though, these songs started to grow on me. Anyone unfamilar with the band, start with their dubut.

1.0 out of 5 stars This ain't no rock
Sorry kids but this ain't no rock. If you want actual rock music with talent go listen to Black Sabbath or Ozzy. I hate what rock music is becoming these days. =(

2.0 out of 5 stars Less than previous installment
No addictive hooks like the last album. Perhaps another case of intentionally straying away from the sounds that make radio playlists, to prove a point. Read more
