5.0 out of 5 stars The best album ever...

I love everything about this cd except the x-plicit lyrics. Here is a brief description of the songs:

Tatu - 3 Stars. My least favorite song on the cd but still good.
Ski-Ming - 4 Stars. Good song. Not her best but extrmely dark.
Oil+Water - 5 Stars. You can totally get in her head and relate to how she felt. All of us...

1.0 out of 5 stars wasted talent
She's seriously talented. I love her voice. She squanders it all on horrible material that at best is filled with pretensions, and at worst is boring. She could be a fine female chanteuse. She's way too convinced of her innate cleverness and unique sense of music. Which, i suppose, is why she's released little and it's gone nowhere. What a waste--it's a voice that could...

Tatu - 3 Stars. My least favorite song on the cd but still good.
Ski-Ming - 4 Stars. Good song. Not her best but extrmely dark.
Oil+Water - 5 Stars. You can totally get in her head and relate to how she felt. All of us remember one point where we fell in love to only find a broken heart.
Bruises- 5 Stars. Very deep, very dark. Feeling love at the same time as feeling hate...
Siren - 5 Stars. Top two songs. We've all been there- In love with the person who could hurt us most. The music is almost electronic, but it is still really great.
Hell+Bliss - 5 Stars. My favorite song not only on this album but in general. Light and deep at the same time, different from anything else on the album. Acoustic, symphony, Jazzish vocals- I can't explain it. Yes, actually I can: AMAZING!

This album is dark, deep, meaningful, and beautiful. I couldn't live without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing, February 6, 2002

I take my acting and my music very seriously, and I can honestly say that Majandra Delfino is topping my list in both categories. I watch Roswell (a total guilty pleasure) and I fell in love with her voice when her character Maria sang on the show. Over the summer I read somewhere about how Majandra herself was interested in music so I went to her website on a whim and checked it out. I downloaded "Siren" and have never regretted it! I pre-ordered the CD that day and when I finally got it in October I wore the thing out. All my friends, who find my music taste odd to say the least, love this CD, even my Britney Spears crazed roommate comments on how melodic, deep and penetratingly beautiful the music is. There hasn't been a single person that I have recommended this to (and I've recommended it to everyone) that hasn't loved it completely and gotten their own copy. I HIGHLY recommend that if you like stuff like Portishead, Poe, and NIN that you give this a try, and try it even if you don't like those bands cause you'll be in for a music treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing To Get Sick Of, June 25, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Sicks (Audio CD)
On her self-released debut EP, actress/singer Majandra Delfino (who goes, simply, by Majandra when recording music) proves that she's not just another TV star with pop ambitions. For one thing, she doesn't sing pop songs. The music on the moody, ambient "The Sicks" is clearly not intended for radio airwaves. And yet, one can't help but hope that there does come a day when this kind of challenging music could make it to a much broader audience.

While some may compare Majandra to like-minded artists such as Tori Amos, Portishead, and Bjork, the songs on "The Sicks" (most of which explore love and heartache in the aftermath of a breakup) are decidedly original in tone. True, you can hear a little bit of Radiohead and the aforementioned artists in songs like the lovely "Siren" or "Ski-Ming," but Majandra doesn't simply feltch her material from her influences; she establishes a sound that is uniquely, wholly hers.

The EP opens with "Ski-Ming," a particularly juicy number that has Majandra declaring herself as "manipulative" in order to snare herself a man. "I play it like I'm distant/And never really listen/I talk of leaving your life/Right after we've been reminiscing/So all along there is a game/And sometimes I am winning" she sings overtop the lucious electronics of the haunting music. "Bruises" finds her contemplating doing harm to herself in the wake of a breakup with an abusive partner, while on "Oil + Water," she laments that she is probably not cut out for love. "Siren" features some lovely Kate Bush-like vocals, and "Tatu" shows her at her neurotic, heartboken, angry best. "My psychotic vengeance is on a killing spree" she sings. ...The album closes with the lovely, somewhat hopeful acoustic gem, "Hell + Bliss," on which Majandra pleads with her ex to take the risk of returning to her. The song's more uppity arrangement sets it apart from the rest of the darker, more cerebral stylings of the previous tracks, and it provides the perfect capper to a deeply pleasing collection of rich, pensive songs.

Delfino played Maria on TV's sci-fi series "Roswell," and also appeared as a privileged, drug-addled teen in Steven Soderbergh's "Traffic," and she showed promise as an actress in those (and several other) performances. Thankfully (and somewhat surprisingly), she displays the same promise with this stellar mini-record of mature, gorgeous compositions. Sadly, the EP is very hard to come by, but most of the songs can now be found on the Internet. Anyone who enjoys electronic-based music would do themselves a favor by downloading those songs or searching high and low for a copy of this nearly perfect debut by a stunning new musical talent. Grade: A

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, January 11, 2003
This review is from: The Sicks (Audio CD)
Just forget Maria from Roswell ! She's DEAD !!

Now, just focus on Majandra for the great singer she is !
I know it's a strange kind of music but it looks like Portishead and Björk, and that's really cool !
Dark, but cool !
Great voice, great music ...

SKI-MING is the first song of the album, interresting, and it shows how she did the album !
BRUISES is a lil' bit violent but not so much !
OIL + WATER is a slow song, with a "sample of love".
SIREN is just great !
TATU is a real good song with beautiful music (looks like Portishead songs) !
HELL + BLISS is simply the best : guitar and voice, what a beautiful mix for good lyrics !

But I'm sad for one thing : there are only 6 songs on the cd !!

I'm waiting for the next !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Music For Any Occasion!, February 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Sicks (Audio CD)
While many see this compiled music by UPN's Roswell's Majandra Delfino dark, "I just got dumped and want to listen to some depressing music", I see it in a very inspirational way and more. The recording contains very melodic, light industrial strength music with Majandra's vocals being very unique and unpredictable. I can really see songs like "Ski-Ming" being played in a dance club. Though most of the lyrics are slow, the rythm is dancable, but not for all the songs. Most of the songs do seem to focus on emotional and physical battering. The best part is some songs end very quickly with a line that tells the whole story and makes you really think. Every song is poetic in it's own way. I have heard many stories from young people of what they have went through in their lives and they could easily relate to this music. Much, Much deeper than anything Trent Reznor could ever write! Majandra wrote and performed every song on this album. I was inspired by all of it. The album will surprise you, shock you, make you think. It puts one in the mood to want to light a candle or two and relax in a cozy chair in a dark atmosphere. While you can play this in your car on a date, you could also play it for a romantic candlelight dinner, or for mood creating sensual moments between two people. There are only 6 songs on this album, and it makes it all the perfect; just the right amount. I must also comment on the artwork in the enclosed sleeve. All the shocking, again making you analyze, artwork goes along perfectly with each song. The sleeve also contains a beautiful photo of Majandra Delfino. The sleeve and the CD jacket itself are all made from recycled, environmentally safe, paper/cardboard. This whole album does not get the recognition that it so desperately deserves. Yes, the chick from Roswell has an album! Yes it is better than the best! Copyrighted in 2001, it is not so long ago Majandra made this wonderful masterpiece that I hope you will all enjoy. The downloadable mp3s from the album are great, but actually having the entire CD is better, especially on repeat mode. So add this reasonably-priced CD (personally, I would pay more) to your shopping cart and enjoy Majandra's Magical Music. No matter how you're feelin', your never too sick to listen to this album titled "the sicks"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Maria Alejandra Delfino, December 15, 2002

Majandra is a wonderful singer, her lyrics come from her innermost thoughts. The cd cover (that somebody rude had been remarking on) was derived from the original flash layout of her website. I've seen Majandra in concert and this girl has such a stage presence. I hope she goes on to do greater things!

This album is dark, disturbing and truly beautiful all at the same time. Definatly something that I would say has a 'gothic edge' too it but very inspiring and enjoyable. I advise you listen to 'Ski-Ming' and 'Siren' first because both are equally alluring and are the general tone of the whole album. 6 fantastic songs by a fantastic artist-what more could you ask for?!

4.0 out of 5 stars Haunting and Full-Blooded., May 25, 2002
This review is from: The Sicks (Audio CD)
I was long awaiting this cd, after hearing Majandra's songs on Roswell as Maria DeLuca. I was not disappointed.

Majandra has talent, for sure. Her voice is luring and haunting, though some may call it an acquired taste. The beats aren't completely original, but they do add an air of uniqueness to the cd. Some of her songs do lack a certain harmony, but they are catchy lyrics that have more meaning than anything that ever came out of Britney Spears' mouth. Her words and songs have lots of meaning to them, which is what I believe makes the cd a lot better.

Overall, I'd say that Ski-ming was probably one of my favourites on this album. I'd say give her a listen, if you like the styles of Tori Amos. She might need a little more practice before she reaches that far, but she certainly has potential.
