-All the units are customizable which is very nice since you create a unit that you want instead of picking a pre-make one.
-The diplomatic in the game is more realistic than both civ 4 & 5
-It cool to see futurist civ game
The user interface is the most unfriendly one I see in games. You have to right click to see all the actions you can do unlike civ 4 & 5 where you have icons that you pick to do the actions.
-The in game tutorial doesn't explain the game very well and is very vague. Plus the game physical copy doesn't come with a manuals, so I don't even know how to play the game correctly and their no you-tube video of a person explain the game. It would be helpful if someone post a website that give a full tutorial of the game in the comments.
-The unit support is broken to me. If you want to support units you have to use minerals(production) instead of energy(money) in other civ games. So the more units you have the less production you have. So the amount of units a base support make your base less productive, so you build slower.
-The graphic are bad. I know that isn't a fair cons since the game is old however I have to look carefully if I build a farm or a mine in the square.
So anyway that my two cents. I would suggest to look up a youtube video of someone playing it before you buy it. Also I didn't had any problems install the game and I run window 8.
I did buy this game again, and did try to play it again. And it didn't work again.
The facts: the Firaxis website is still operational, with their newest "Civ" games being heavily promoted. But Alpha Centauri is nowhere to be found, nor did I find it mentioned. And no Alpha Centauri forums, and no Alpha Centauri patches.
This newest CD I bought already had the supposed patch included in it (but you'll find this same patch available on several amateur websites, for free, and usually dating back to 2009). You'll also find amateur forums which extoll said patch's ability to fix the problems Alpha Centauri has when operating on XP. But you'll also find comments from people who have said that the patch doesn't (always) work.
That's where you get into "garage programmer" areas. Posters who insist that fixing said problems are as easy as opening up a file, and changing a line inside a folder. Or fiddling with your computer's cpu.
And did I mention that Alpha Centauri is neither available on Steam or Amazon for download? But I *did* see it advertised (download version) on a site that is over least two years old.
Those are the facts. Feel free to reach your own assessment. My theory: the game has been said to play too similarly to CIV 2, and is probably too easily broken (beaten) to make re-publishing it worthwhile. Pity.
