The game is great. However, it crashes quite a bit, so be sure to save often (in addition to autosave). I wish there was a way to insert a stop in a train route. Also, the cost to buyout other railroad companies should be much greater.

As a fan of many Sid Meier games I am very dissapointed with "RAILROADS". It is certainly not up to the standards of other Sid Meier's titles. When you see reviews telling you "it's great, you just have to save it regularly" it means you will be lucky to play 5 minutes without the game crashing. The customer support is worthless as well. I got this game as for christmas 2008. I installed it along with the patch from the "RAILROADS" website and sure enough it crashed after 15 minutes. When a saved game is played it is more like 5 minutes. Thinking maybe my PC didn't have enough RAM or a suitable graphics card or perhaps another patch in the works I e-mailed their customer support. I got no reply. I held onto the game to see if a patch would be released. This year our PC died and we bought a new one. An Hp E9280F. This computer has the Intel I9 processor, 9GB RAM, 1GB graphics card etc. It Runs other more complex games flawlessly. Once again I have the same problem with crashing. Again I tried contacting the games customer support and got an automated e-mail saying that my concerns would be addressed within 72 hours. That was 4 working days ago and got no reply. What really makes me mad is that they will not contact me. Don't waste your $.

Have always been a fan of Sid Meier creations this is no exception. Ive come to the party on this title a little late (Not knowing the title was available), but now that im here have found an SMR community that has been making user maps for this title extending the fun and challenge far into the future. Playing this title I have found the Game AI Opponents are a little easy, fortunatly there is an online component to this game alowing human competition.

Im sure that this game will be like all other games I play, eventually getting a little boared with them, but I currently keep installed all Sid Meier games Ive ever purchased, for I constantly find myself going back and playing them again and again and again.

To get a taste of the game you can download a playable demo off the official Railroads! website. Hope this review has helped you make a decision of purchase and looking forward to seeing you in the online community.

There have been many complaints that this game freezes -- After extensive online investigation I have found the problem occures under the opperating systems of Windows Vista and 7 -- The online SMR community has come up with a fix for this problem (SidMeiersRailroads3GBEnabler). Though this is not an official patch, I have found it corrects the crashing issue. PLEASE USE YOR OWN DISCRETION WHEN INSTALLING NON OFFICIAL PATCHES.
