4.0 out of 5 stars Read On, and Embark Upon A Spiritual Journey, July 11, 2006
By
This review is from: Siddartha (Library Binding)
I must say I think this book is amazing. It is a wonderfully written story of a young man on a spiritual journey which takes the reader through doubt, disbelief, revelations, amazement, understanding, and a sense of unity and peace. It takes place during the time of Buddha and the young man's journey crosses over Buddhism, and also explores the purpose of religion for individuals and for societ. It celebrates open-mindedness and exploration and growth and unity. Reading "Siddartha" is truly a beautiful experience. I have recommended it to all of my friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars A short book, but one that leaves you thinking., December 9, 2004
This review is from: Siddartha (Library Binding)
The paperback version of this book is only 150 pages, but it can be a meaningful 150 if you really reflect on what you've read. I really enjoyed the book and felt like the story it told was meaningful and representative of something we should all reflect on. What are we chasing so hard? Is it really that important?

Hesse challenges us on these beliefs and made me evaluate what goals I had for myself and the reasons that I went after them. Previous reviews have called the book slow or boring, but there is a great deal of internal thought and contemplation in the mind of the lead character. I found these areas to be very interesting and eye opening.

Give this book a try, as it's a short read and really can challenge your beliefs as to what you are trying to achieve in this short life span of ours.

The book was pretty good overall but seems to hit slow spots along the way.
