Ranging in mood from horror to heroic fantasy,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Far Side of Nowhere (Hardcover)
The Far Side Of Nowhere is an impressively presented anthology of the sometimes bizarrely twisted, sometimes darkly imaged, and always captivating fantasy and science fiction stories of Nelson Bond. A master at skewing reality just enough to see a mirror glimpse of the secret dreams that lie beneath the humdrum, ordinary surface of daily life, Bond is a demonstrably talented writer who has clearly mastered the storytelling craft. Ranging in mood from horror to heroic fantasy, these stories are as evocative and engaging as they are striking and memorable.

This review is from: The Far Side of Nowhere (Hardcover)
Nelson Bond was a pure 1950s sci-fi writer. His strong characters and striking idiom make him readable and entertaining. Fans of Asimov, Silverberg, P.K. Dick and the Twilight Zone will enjoy the suprise endings and fast moving alternate realities of Nelson Bond. The hardback collection varies from short comic tales to a few longer novella type excursions. I discovered Bond because he is a native of Huntington WV, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and entertaining nature of the collection.
